  • 2015 Subaru WRX Debuts at L.A. Auto Show

    From Automotive News:

Subaru unveiled a longer, roomier and sportier looking redesigned WRX sedan in a move to separate the high performance car from its sister Impreza compact. The 2015 WRX has a new 268-horsepower 2.0-liter direct-injection turbo boxer engine, and for the first time, a six-speed manual transmission. A continuously variable automatic transmission is option.

The last WRX they designed belonged in the garbage, this one not so much. I really like the style of the front end, it is fairly refined and maybe a little boring but it is still a WRX.

From the pics it strongly resembles the '05-'06 Legacys which were arguably the best looking Subarus to date. But I would only buy a 5 door and it would have to get reasonable MPGs.

I did not make that connection when I first looked at it. I can definitely see the resemblance, and those Legacys looked great.

Maybe in a function over form sort if way but still not a better looking car than the 05-06 Legacys IMO.

Aren't today's WRC cars completely different cars than what is being sold through the dealer? $500,000 AWD Ford Fiesta?

Subaru doesn't have a factory backed team in WRC for a few years now.

Funny how things go, because I'm under 40 but grew up in a house where we followed rally, so I remember Subaru just becoming a force in rally in the 90's..
We were always fans of the Lancias in group B and later A, but grew to accept that some of cars of the era that came from Peugeot, Citroën and Ford were pretty damn cool too... so while "the kids" may think about rally Fiestas and C4s with Red bull logos, I'm thinking RS200, Sierra and Escort Cosworth, the ZX that won the Paris-Dakar and Xsara rally kit car.

The "50" was a jab directed at William,,, and I just recently got my "40-something" license, so go suck an egg...

But it is a sign of a great marketing achievement... "subaru= rally" is very ingrained in the very people they are marketing car to now... nicely done.
