        I suck at karting. But the one thing I've learned from some kart races is how important patiently picking a pass is.

          also how important where you mount the transponder !!!!
          in amateur races, we don't have a camera for photo finish.....we just go by what transponder says.

            SCCA does photo finishes. I have a race win I won by just a few thousandth so they went to the photo to rule out variations in the transponder location. I think it was about 3" or in other words twice as long as a Corvette you-know.

            In another time at WSIR I came in second by about 6" or .0043 second. I wish that the start finish line was 50 feet earlier that day as I got held up by traffic out of Turn Nine and Ryan Cashin ran me down to the finish line.

              Another great finish was Portland in 1986...Andretti on Andretti action. Jump to 1:40.45 for the finish.

                That can't be Portland - the sun's shining.

                Sigh. Oh for the days when open-wheelers were real race cars. Not this stupid clockwork/battery powered sounds-like-poo nonsense they're burdening us with nowadays, get-off-my-lawn.
