  • [video] Finally got back on track with Optima USCA at Willow Springs

For those that have been going through track withdrawals due to COVID-19 I thought you might enjoy this YouTube video of my recent participation in the Optima's Search for the Ultimate Street Car at Willow Springs. This is in the GTV class with my 1968 pro touring Camaro. For those not familiar the event has 6 different classes and competition in 5 segments. The performance driving consists of a time trials segment on the road course, autocross and what they call a speed stop.

Thanks for posting and share share more events.
You solved the truck, trailer and somewhere to keep it problem.
Anyone still run an AC and take off the belt at the track?
Nice video, what program supplies your on screen data?
    What type cameras?

      Thanks!

I've been doing this long enough I have much more appreciation for having a truck and trailer. I don't begrudge guys trailering their "street cars" but when the event is close to home I enjoy being able to drive to/from the track.

Nobody I know of disconnects the compressor belt at the track. My Vintage Air setup uses a single serpentine belt for everything so that's not an option. However with the AC off its basically just another idler pulley.

I'm use a GoPro 7 and 8 to record the videos. For the onscreen data I'm using the free version of Race Render which can also automatically pull the GPS data from the gopro video.

Chad thanks last question do you have a link for your external Mic on the GP7 or GP8?
Your in car video sound is much better than my videos.
Guess I need the mic closer to the exhaust exit.

You are using a GP7 or 8 now? I found the mic to be much better on the 7 than my previous 4. It pics up sound much better in all situations and does a better job of blocking out wind noise. Though if you mount it outside the car it still can't handle that level of wind noise. I've tried a lot of external mics but always come back to the same one. It's getting harder to find for some reason with Amazon not consistently stocking it. I'm not sure if that is COVID related as I recently was going to buy a backup.

Here is an article I wrote on GoPro external microphones.

I haven't been able to get my hands on the adapter (media module) for the 8 but this post is a good reminder to see if it's in stock yet.
