  • In depth: Carroll Shelby Interview

A lot of history covered in this interview. Totally worth the watch.

My favorite quote, “ “”I never wanted to build the mustang, it was a secretary’’s car”.””

?? just a few famous ones:

          1. his "foundation" donates an average of 8% of proceed to charity. keeping most of it.
          2. Shelby magically "found" 43 chassis hidden in 1989 (at height of Cobra craze). so he built 43 more original Cobra. $350k of $500k MSRP donates to his "charity" (see #1)
          3. famous for bringing frivolous lawsuits against a lot of people.
          4. claimed his "Series 1" weighs 2,350LB, when C&D weighed the car at 3,350LB.
          5. he is a spokesman for zMax snake oil.

Lots of high end guys into cars are crooks. Anyone remember payday loan king Scott tucker? How about Porn lawyer Avanetti? About 18y/o I was an apprentice Ferrari mechanic in tight with the owner head mechanic. He used to say things like “that guy stole this car from this guy.” And “this guy is sleeping with that guy’s wife”. These guys had money but the owner never let a car out of the shop unpaid. These were high end guys too. We were doing things like prepping ferrari race cars for the Mille in Italy.

Well his symbol is a venomous snake, so be forewarned. He talked up his new venture in Las Vegas a bit saying he has some really bright composites engineers working from him that came originally from Aerospace . Seems like he wants to build another Cobra with 700 hp at 2200 pounds.

                he died 7 years ago.......

and if you believed him and bought his company stock in 1997 as in the interview. you probably would of bought his company stock as it went public at $5.50 per share

if you win the F1 Challenge, you can buy 2,000 shares of his company stock at 10 cents per share today !!

I know I'm probably one of the younger folks on this board, but I had to google what Mille even was!

I saw Ford v. Ferrari yesterday. Good, but less so than I expected.

In my humble opinion: Good story line (even if it did take liberty with the "facts"), good writing (especially the dialogue), weak on car/track stuff, good acting (except on the part of Christian Bale, who can be mesmerizing and who I was really looking foward to - an overacted, one dimensional performance that just didn't ring true for me).

Glad I went? Sure. Encourage others to see it? With explicit reservations.
