    Name: Alan Tseng
    Location: Hacienda Heights
    Age: 35
    Experiences:

I bought a 98 Lotus Esprit V8 back in 2007, did a Fastlane school and started doing about 1 track day per year for about 4 years.

2 years ago I acquired a 2008 STI Wagon as a family car (that's what I told the wife) and my track car. Last May one piston gave up at Big Willow which resulted in an engine rebuild, after the build I did a couple of track days.

Just recently I felt that I wanted a car that's more dedicate for track, more safety, and cheaper on the wear and tear. I just became a daddy for about 6 weeks and it was hard to find the balance between family car (comfort) & track car. Finally last month I bought a spec Miata from bellwilliam, I finally realized how fun the Spec Miata is. At the moment tracking my car is hard because of how busy I am with the newborn. However, I'm looking forward to be back on the track after the summer heat is over. Hope to meet you guys at the track.

    Cars:

    1998 Lotus Esprit V8, 385 rwhp (estimate), 2950 lb - Fastlane Racing School, 1 X SOW, 2 X Big Willow (Best Lap 1:45), 1 X ACS Roval
    2008 Subaru STI, 316 awhp, 3450 lb - 1 X BW 13 CW (Wet Track Day), 2 X SOW (Best Lap 1:34), 4 X Big Willow (Best Lap 1:39)
1991 Spec Miata, 113.8 rwhp (Church Automotive Dyno), 2200 lb - Recently Acquired - haven't done any track days yet.

Favorite Track: All...I'm most familiar with Big Willow, I also like SOW & BW.

Hopefully that means my '92 NSX in mint condition with 103K miles is going up in value too . . .

^^^ I paid $12,300 for an '03 AP1 in nice condition with less than 60,000 miles on it about 3 years ago, and I even bought it from a used car dealer, not a private party. I'm surprised by those prices.

Clean AP2s are 19k now. Thats a stock 04/05 with 70k miles or less. Newer or low mileage are in the 20s. Ive been trying to help 2 friends find one and its a sellers market.

Sure but it wouldn't be a competitive wheel to wheel car. You've been talking about getting a race car but track cars are fine too.

You of all people know "inexpensive" is a relative term. Try to build that car from scratch even with used parts and see what it costs. You should buy it so you can see what a properly prepped PTE/D Miata can do.

Hey what's up everyone! I'm Tom from San Diego. I just got into this whole track day thing and I'm friggin hooked. I've been running the 2012 Mazdaspeed 3, and it's a beast. (that understeers like a beast..)

So far I've been to Big Willow, Buttonwillow and Chuckwalla. I was at Chuckwalla on April 21st and saw the aftermath of the accident. Since it happened, I've been re-evaluating the whole track day idea and decided I needed to get a dedicated track car with all of the safety equipment. The current plan is to get a Miata of some kind, put some suspension parts on it, roll bar, seat, harness, and HANS device.

I found this site while searching for safety gear. Tons of good info. Thanks all, and I'll see you around!
