Default Top 40 Buttonwillow Lap Times

Post only your PB lap time on this thread. I will update this list periodically. When the list is full, please don't submit your time if it is slower then the last person on the list. Also, i will delete your post after your info is updated on the list to keep the thread clean.

Submit only your own fastest lap time per driver per track configuration in the following format:

track config if necessary; laptime (name; car; tires; HP(crank otherwise stated)/Weight(w/o driver otherwise stated); Month/Yr; optional link to Video or time sheet)

    Example:
    BW#13CW; 1:22.323 (Mika Hakkinen; McLaren MP4; Michelin Soft; 800whp/1,300lbs w/driver; Dec/01)

Note: The .x's in with times will be equivalent to a digit 9.

OK, the original post had grown too long for the parameters, so I had to shrink the Top 50 #13 CW times to the Top 40. It was Top 25 when I took over the site, but I expanded it to 50. Now I have to pull it back a bit.

It has been happening for a while lately. I've been removing some of the instructions and tightening up the copy, but I kept running into size issues, so I didn't have much choice. If we start getting a lot of fast times for the other track configurations, I might have to shrink #13 CW back to 25.

So what do you guys think is the laptime difference between #1-CCW and #13-CW, same driver in same car under same conditions? 7 - 8 seconds, or what?

Probably more like 4 seconds if you have practice in the CCW direction. Star mazda adds about 4 seconds compared to the sweeper according to Aaron of Speed Ventures and others who were there yesterday. Other than that, I don't see why CCW would be slower than CW except for practice.

I heard a couple years ago that CW is faster than CCW. Ive heard anywhere from 1-2sec. That was a couple years ago and most HPDE groups have mainly ran CW, so i agree, lack of practice with CCW probably has something to do with it. But i also think the esses have something to do with it. Its easier to carry more speed out of the esses all the way to sunset when going CW. When youre going CCW its difficult to go flat out after exiting the esses all the way to star mazda. The same applies when youre running the sweeper. So given that section alone id guess CW is faster than CCW.

I'd agree that 1CW is about 4-5 seconds slower than 13CW (depending on the car, of course), and 1CCW is 1-2 seconds slower than 1CW.

My observations... Riverside is faster, but most of the other corner complexes seem slower. CW has a lot of straight line entry, turning exit corners... CCW has a lot of turning entry, straight line exit corners.

I've driven 13CW in my current car only once and it was the first event I did with it so it wasn't anywhere near dialed in, the lap time was a 2:07.3 .
A couple event later I did CVR CW that it seems like most people think is a 1-2 secs slower than 13CW, but my car was a good bit more dialed in and I clocked a 2:04.4 , so presumably the car should be capable of running 13 CW 2:02-2:03.
After clocking a 2:12.9 yesterday with the car very dialed in, it may be that 1CCW is as much as 9-10 secs slower than 13CW...

Spec Miata time is probably the best gauge.

2:06s 13CW (summer) vs. 2:14s (summer)... give or take a second.....

so a delta of ~8 seconds.

it was pretty funny Saturday morning....
since SV hasn't ran anything other than 13CW in many years, SV red and green were a LOT slower than usual Saturday morning with 1CCW.

it was a disaster for the first 2 sessions.........a lots of off, braking 200ft too early, contacts......

later in the day, one of Trackhq'er met wall of Champions......

a side story - late Saturday towards end of the day. 3 of Miata went out first in the session. I was the 3rd car, hauling down at Esses at 100MPH, running very close to both Miata in front...all of sudden Alex (in front of me) braked WAYYYYY early, I swerved to avoid Alex, going off track. I saw a corner worker WALKING across the track, walking SLOWWWWWLY, still on racing surface when I passed him. Sonny was in the first car, he just went around the corner worker, but both Alex and I behind didn't see the corner worker till we were hitting last Esses's curbing. the Evo behind me locked up brakes big time, white smokes everywhere.

I told Aaron afterward, and he immediately knew who it was....and said will be firing the corner worker.......

5 seconds is on the low side of the estimates I've heard people throw around.
Seems to me that the faster a given car is, the smaller the gap will be between the two configs/directions, and vice-versa; a slower car will see a larger time difference.

I have been looking around for dependable lap records that can be compared to answer this question, and dusted the cobwebs off this old NASA page: lap_records_class.html - National Auto Sport Association - nasaproracing.com

From 2003-2005-ish times, Spec Miata lap record between #1 CCW and #13 CW is 9 seconds.
The gaps for some of the other classes:

    944-Spec: 4.4
    American Iron: 5.4
    American Iron Extreme: 7.4
    Honda Challenge 1: 6.5
    Honda Challenge 4: 7.4

The Pro Sedan classes may need to be thrown out as outliers because they are 14-20 seconds different between the two configs.

Edit: it seems that in the time it took me to type a reply in this thread via iPhone (which takes forever), William offered the much more current info I had been seeking.

Probably the same corner worker that I encountered at the star Mazda corner. Red S2000 with a wing (spun at star Mazda at least 3 times) was sideways in the middle of the track in a haze of white smoke. Corner worker was there just staring at the car, no yellow flags, for maybe 10 seconds.

    1CCW is awesome though.
