Default 2016 Focus RS time attack chassis / safety build

My addition to the recent mentions of the Focus RS in the forum lately

We received the car mostly gutted already by the owner and weighed it, it came in at 2187 Lbs.
Than I went to town with the grinder and spot drill -

Next up was the cage which is an 11 pointer with integrated seat mounts, we took the time to fit it tight to the frame and stitched the bars directly to the chassis in no less than 14 (!) locations additionally -

    Triangles for days!
It's somewhat difficult to see stitching shown here - the main hoop, A pillar bars both next to the main hoop and the windshield frame, door bars and the secondary support tube between the harness bar node and the roof structure.
Basically, any part of the chassis that is painted Purple is welded to the cage -

Note how we managed to cram the fuel cell as low as possible in the chassis.
Same goes to the fire bottle.
BTW, all 6 nozzles of the fire system are visible here -

Cage mounted FIA rated Cobra Sebring halo seat, Schroth Racing 6 point Hybrid II HANS racing harness, window and center nets and a 6 nozzle fire system are all designed to keep the driver in good shape if things go wrong -

Passenger seat is out when the car is in race mode, but can go back in for track days -

Candy Purple paint job for maximum style points!
Also, passengers are ballast, so they are placed low and far back

The fire system can be operated by the driver and track marshalls from either side of the car, note Red buttons on both sides -

Not much left from the original doors other than the outer skin and a bit of perimeter frame to help them retain their shape.
Windshield and rear windows are custom made from hard coated scratch resistant Lexan -

Custom fabricated Blackbird Fabworx side mounts allowed us to locate the driver more accurately than any off the shelf mounts could, they also look great with their Pearl Gunmetal Gray powder coat which never hurts -

The Fuel Safe cell is mounted within the cage structure and is separated from the occupants of the vehicle by a sealed enclosure.
There is a dedicated fire system nozzle for the cell.
Fueling access is as easy as twisting the two wing Dzus fasteners to open the lid -

All buttoned up and ready to go home.

The plan for this car is very exciting and includes lots of horse power, a sequential trans, bunch of carbon bits to shave additional weight and more!
And speaking of weight, we ended up removing so much weight from the car (which came already gutted as noted earlier), that after the cage and fuel cell went in we scaled it at 2141 Lbs.
Yep, 46 Lbs. lighter! Gotta love that

    EDIT TO ADD -
Somehow I forgot to add a pic of the Lexan windshield we fabricated and installed.
The windshield is fabricated from hard coated scratch resistant Lexan and is spaced correctly to match the factory look, also note painted Black edging and painted bolt heads which also give it a factory looking finish.
Even the VIN plate is still showing as it would from the factory -

    Enjoy!

    No engine in there.
The weight reference is just for before / after purposes

The more I see your work the more I like it. I may be too lazy to fab my next cage which means don't retire any time soon!

    Wow. That looks fantastic.

Will this car be raced in Global Time Attack?

No engine or trans, but rear diff and driveshaft still in.
Car is getting a sequential gearbox, so I assume it's going to be lighter than the original trans.
Also getting a Carbon roof and rear hatch, major savings there.
