I head you loud and clear, but Brody has to keep OEM headlights intact in SM, might as well have the better ones.
On a good note, looks like I have 3 years left to use ****ty headlights, woohoo!

    with 55w, they are okay.
with 100w, you must be careful with current draw, most likely, your stock alternator won't handle it. also make sure your kill switch will handle it.
with 35w Xenon, light pattern sucks.

you also should have 2 with wider pattern ones for cornering, 2 narrow ones for afar.
They are 55s, I have replaced the lousy 75 amp alt with a 130amp as well. Ideally the way they are wired current draw across the kill switch should only occur with the alternator not producing.

I did some work in the dark tonight. So far, so good. Not enough corner lighting yet, but I can shim the headlamp buckets outward to get more. I also think there are reliefs in the hood-reinforcement webbing to bolt it right on with no weird-angle funkiness.

I got the bar mounted today and shimmed out the headlamp buckets. I'm waiting for darkness to have a look.

maybe a backing plate on the underside of the light mounting hardware? i know miata's dont hit that high of a vmax on track, but might just be a bit of extra insurance, would suck for the bolt/nut to rip through the hood at speed mid race

I'll add a big fender washer to each side. This is just for setting it up. Thanks!

    Hey Brant,

Which H4 bulbs are you running in those housings? From the looks of the pic, they don't appear to be really bright H4 bulbs.

While they're probably not your primary light source with your big honking LED strip on the hood, I notice a considerable amount of difference between the standard 50/60w H4 bulbs and the "Osram Hyper 80/85W" H4 bulbs.
Side to side comparison between the '95 and '94 Miatas confirm this.

These are the ones I just put into the '94...

A bit pricey at $20 each, but there's enough difference that I plan on installing a pair in the '95 shortly.

They came in a kit. Maybe I can get the bulbs you pointed out at my local Auto Zone. They have a whole section of super bright bulbs.

    Exclamation DOOOOD get HID's

Weekend-Racer.com HID Headlight Upgrade from Halogen Bulbs

Not all imported HID kits are the same... Weekend-Racer.com & Enduro-Racer.com HID Kits have been proven to last throughout two seasons of SoCal WERC races and two 25hr races (on same bulbs and ballasts).

    OPTIONS:
    • If your OEM Headlamp housings are glass choose 55w, if not glass choose 35w
    • For NA Miata choose Bulb Size H4
    • Ship time is 7-to-10 business days
