That is an awesome lap time. I think I need to head back out there with the new car. I figure I can get into the 1:17s, but I don't think me and my car have a 1:15 lurking.

    Let me add this.

The video reminds me of a story I read in Cycle World probably 20 years ago. It was about a guy from the South named Ken, who put turbos on liter-class Kawasaki sport bikes. One of the quotes from the writer went something like, "I short shifted it. It wheelied anyway."

Streets of Willow is a tight course, so I see you short shifting it a lot, and yet it looks and sounds like it's breaking the tires loose anyway. The course at VIR will be a great place to let this car stretch its legs.

The closing quote went something like this: "After my test drive, Ken came over and in his Southern drawl said, 'Runs pretty good with the boost turned up, don't it?' Uh, yeah, Ken, sure does."

    What a machine!

You have no idea. Torrential rains, sessions Black Flagged, the track is a mess.
Ryan and I both went off and tore up our splitters. His was destroyed so we put my spare S1 Splitter on it. Bullet's is salvageable. We qualified for the main event tomorrow. Ryan unfortunately, never got a clean lap due to the weather.

Apparently we weren't the only ones who were critically affected by the insane weather. GRM cancelled the planned knockout session. They are allowing all cars to run in a combined session.
That gives both of us a shot if it dries out. A few drivers that got laps in during a brief dry patch today are basically unassailable, 15s faster. So unless it dries completely, we are both out of the top ten.
But at least we have a shot.

Thanks for the summary. I wish they would stream this event live. WTA streams live from Australia. Why can't they stream this? With the added drama of the storm this would be must see tv! Err uh streaming...

For us Westcoast dessert track guys VIR has an extra gotcha especially when grass is wet. You hit that grass and the runoff area gets really really small.

The time attack aspect of the UTCC basically got cancelled by the conditions and it's merely down to putting on a good show.
Sucks that this is the case, especially for the Socal crew which doesn't get to VIR every day, and even double that since both cars sustained damage.
Hopefully other aspects of this trip will work out well, but I'm super bummed for all you guys.

Don't be bummed so much. We are working through the technical issues and looking forward to our opportunities on track, however they may present themselves. Head down, we still have two full days of competition.

We have to do Runoffs at VIR next year. I hope we can see a lap from you guys with some commentary on what to look for and how to go fast there. I raced that track once in 2015 but never got it.

Until the warm software is fixed it is a real pain to publish in line images from my phone so it'll have to wait until I get back to California.
Meanwhile, our Saturday report copied from another forum:

Hectic day. Qualified P2 for the SU race with a 1:59. Schedule was changing all day, our race group was announced 30m behind schedule. Confusion caused us to be late to grid. So no result there. Sonny finished 3rd in TTU.

Really weird to see all these really powerful high dollar cars fly up the front straight then Sonny pulling out and passing them. Essence flat easy and 6th. Will have to look at the data but we think we were hitting about 160 on the back straight. The rear spring rate fixed the balance. It's beautifully balanced and surprisingly easy to drive. Requires full attention at all times because you are ust going so bloody fast.

Because the one Makeup Session for utcc was also rained out I didn't even bother going on track. No chances of improving my time so I finished 13th with the time set in the wet.

Looks like I will be able to sign up for TT on Sunday and finally get some laps in the dry which I'm really looking forward to.

Here's Saturday's SU race restart. Due to schedule confusion, several drivers (including myself) missed pregrid and the start of the Thunder group race. Missed opportunity for Super Unlimited podium, but still fun to drive through most of the backmarkers and amazing to drive at VIR with Bullet, our highly modified SuperMiata (UTCC/GTA SLB trim).
