I was surprised to read that Dempsey racing isn't fielding a car.

Moti, all Mazda rotor housings are aluminum. The 'plates' as we call them that sit inbetween the housings (like a sandwich) are iron.

An assembled 13B shortblock is around ~120lbs (I have shipped one via UPS ground before). I wouldn't call it heavy. My 20B longblock (including turbo) was around 80lbs heavier than the equivalently dressed 13B I ended up replacing it with.

I know that rotor housings are aluminum, Mazda call the front, mid and rear plates housings...
We worked on a lot of rotaries in the shop that I used to work at, more than I care to remember
The plates were frequently used as ballast for cars that were getting corner weighed because they are so heavy, heh.

How much does a fully dressed 20B single turbo weigh?
Can't imagine it being much lighter than a turbo all aluminum 4 banger.

I think Mazda calls them "side housings", but everyone I know calls them either irons or plates.

I took a picture of my 20B on a scale when I sold it, I'll dig it up.

street version of Skyactive-D Diesel Mazda 6 actually has a compression of ~14:1....
I believe Skyactive gas engine is ~13:1.

Mazda claim it is to lighten the diesel engine.

For a newer car, the Rx8 was the best balanced, slowest POS ive ever driven.. So, i guess who cares what the engine weighs, i wouldnt put that thing on my old green machine... Which would be weight appropriate for the power/torque it produces

Why is it that the cartoony blue car has changed into a roadster at 2:10? is that a Easter egg hint of what is to come?
At 2:30 the rear end doesn't look like the 6 rear, but something more compact.

Another Vid about the race engine, and the mention of its synthetic diesel fuel, which made me go.
Is this engine going to run on corn?

I highly doubt the 4cyl is even the same weight as a 3-rotor. It for sure has a much higher CG. The car has two LARGE bar-and-fin intercoolers that look pretty beefy and heavy. Not sure how bad it affects the nose weight but compared to just a radiator in the rotary, it looks like a lot more heavy components.

Yes they are re-using the same Riley chassis that they had in the RX8, but I think I read they had to extend the wheelbase. Aero, chassis, weight differences in more... Probably won't be easy. Then again they are in the GX class with not too many competitors, but it seems like that class varies the most from car to car.

The synthetic fuel they'll run at Daytona is clear and odorless. Stealth diesel.

Aside from their cost I never understood why people race them.

Well, the Roar before the 24 results are disappointing:

Almost DFL in every session? Very un-Speedsource like.
