Actually, it's (according to sources) either the same or slightly less than what he is making at McL.

But Lewis gets more control over his marketing; McLaren keeps everything, helmets, race suites, trophies, marketing of image, and sponsers.
If nothing happens and there is no one around why did it not happen?

I'm not sure getting to keep all that stuff is worth driving for an inferior team.

I think so. The engineering know-how is there, but Rosberg and the second-iteration Schumacher don't regularly have dominant performances like Hamilton.

That appears to be the word, although someone said it's possible he may go to Williams (??).

I am just happy Sergio Perez gets a serious drive next year

Hamilton and Mercedes will be competitive.

@ Dino, so you don't want to keep the silverware or any of the other things, would you accept a pay cut?

If it goes wrong for Hamilton, it will be because XIX Entertainment will have him looking outside the sport for endorsements (to line their own pockets, something that we severely limited by his McLaren contract). We already got to see how well his racecraft handled outside distractions this past year.

Mercedes as a team might be ready to step it up. The point has been made that Brawn takes a few years to build his team, then shines.

I would like to see Perez perform well. We've seen what he's capable of in a Sauber.

Yeah, I would love all that stuff, but above all else I would want to drive for a team that can provide me with the best car, even if it brings a pay cut. At the end of your career, your number of wins and championships is whats going to make the difference, what people will remember, and what will make you proud IMO, a sweet trophy room and a few extra mil are merely the cherry on top.

But the real (or imagined) benefit will be his ability to market himself for global brands.

Also, WLopez posted a pretty compelling link that indicates that Mercedes should have very competitive, proprietary KERS technology for the new 2014 motors.

If indeed the second part holds any weight, then he is surely justified in his decision. The first part is irrelevant IMO, at his level, not otherwise.
