I know who I'm rooting for in the 500.

    There is no downside here.

This is good for Alonso, and it's probably good for F1. Though a win towards Triple Crown is aspirational at best this year - Indy is sharp.

It's not a good sign for how McLaren/Honda views its progress and their outlook for F1 in 2017 (no surprises here). Success at Indy is good for McLaren/Honda - and more likely at Indy than Monaco. And provided that Alonso finishes well, this could be a great for morale - plus much needed positive press for McLaren.

...meanwhile, back in Woking, Jenson receives the news...

Monaco, alright let's do this gents!

...wait, what's Alonso doing if he's not at Monaco?

...bloody hell, when were you going to tell me [bleep]ing Indy was a [bleep]ing option?!"

What you got there is a bored world champion who sees no future in his current state of F1 floundering around until the next opertunity presents itself. What Alonso and the sport needs is the return to Renault of both Alonso and Briatore for a last hurrah of the Renault power team. That will be Alonso's last chance for another wdc.

Alonso wants the triple crown: F1 Championships, Indy 500 win, LeMans win.

No time like the present. I admire him for doing it.

Good for him, the 2017 F1 car is a **** box. Then maybe a GTLM class win at the 24, don't see many options for an overall win.

It would be very, very cool; but, alas, Honda isn't a part.
