    uhh....

I didn't see any contact between the two of them but then again we didn't see what led up to this. Should be interesting to see how the sport reacts to this though. It seems like the circle trackers are the most likely to get out of their cars after contact and start throwing helmets and sending single digit sign language messages to other driver.

I will also add that the track clearly appears to be under caution after the wreck and while the guy definitely ran towards the car I wonder if the 14 car didn't add in a little swerve towards him for good measure and they both just had perfect timing.

Caution doesn't really mean much when you're wearing a brown/black driving suit with a black helmet in the middle of the track at night with a pack of sprint cars circulating.

    Darwin wins this round.

An unfortunately turn of events... and the lesson to learn from this?
Don't get out of your car unless it's on fire.

Else things can escalate quickly, sometimes with fatal consequences.

I have to lean towards Rob on this one.

I have never driven one of these cars, I don't know much about them. However, if you climb out of your car, under yellow, wearing a dark suit and lunge at an oncoming car, you are an idiot.

Not much to discuss. It's just very sad that this happened.

Kid gets out of car to give "pointers" to another driver while cars drive by on the track...and then something bad happens.

On a side note,,, Imagine the ego on this kid to give "pointers" to Tony Stewart... not only does Tony have a list of driving achievements that I can't truly comprehend... but he is know to be a hot head in these situations...

Have not done the math, but I think this fits the "16 things wrong" rule...

I can suggest a more accurate title describing the sequence of events:
Kevin Ward Jr. dies after running into the path of a sprint car.

Mad and on a racetrack, the outcome is usually not good.

Getting out of a broken car stalled on track is ill advised. Every rule book written has a rule about it. Getting out and running toward the circling pack of cars to show your disdain over the type of incident that happens all the time in dirt track racing shows incredibly poor judgment.

It's sad and tragic, but I think Rob has crystalized it pretty accurately.

As a parent I feel horrible for the family of this kid. Unfortunately he showed incredibly poor judgement. If he had stayed in his car, he would still be alive.

Isn't getting out of Sprint car and throw helmet pretty normal ?

If report is accurate about Tony trying to scare the kid, then Tony Stewart need to goto jail and get raped

if stop the video and you look at the 14 cars attitude, it was sliding when it hit Ward Jr. As if Stewart tried evasive action.
Still Rob's right. This was just stupid. Sad, but stupid.
That's not a Typo, I just can't spell no so well.

Did you all read the article ? More than 1 witness said Tony gunned it just before hitting the kid

Looking at this in a different way- Can any of us remember being so pissed off that your emotions got the best of you? I can. Now, just think about that time when you lost it-could you have ever fathomed you would have been DEAD 30 seconds after escalating that altercation you just had?

I'm just grateful that in my later years, I've learned to control that "Red Mist"!

From what I've read from people who know Sprint cars, they 1) don't have transmissions so are very jumpy when not at some significant amount of throttle, 2) You can kindof see forward and to the left out of them, can't see **** to the right, 3) they have so much stagger & goofy camber they are incredibly awkward/jumpy/hard-to-control when doing anything other than going 10/10ths in a circle partially sideways and 4) Because of all that stagger/camber, you steer the thing with the throttle as much as you do with the steering wheel.

The kid was off to Tony's right in a black suit/helmet, at night.............. I'd say only Tony Stewart knows exactly what happened, and I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I am exactly the opposite, knowing Stewart's history, he doesn't get any benefit of the doubt. I believe he was "gesturing" back at the kid.

Jeff is right. Dirt cars are some of the screwiest handling cars ever at low speed. The car regularly turns left and right of its own accord following ruts in the track, much worse at caution speeds. A 900hp car that weighs 1000lbs could accelerate hard if you look at the pedal funny.

I don't like Tony either, but even if Tony wanted to scare the kid or cover him in a rooster tail, I still find the kid fully at fault.

We work with Cory Cruzman Sprint Car School here in Ventura. I have some fantastic seat time over the years in his school and really love the cars at speed. What a rush! BUT anything below 3/4 speed is a wild ride and hard to control for sure. They bounce all over the place and you have to use the gas to drive them. Regardless the young man came after Tony on the track, in fact he moved around other cars to get to him... he got close what a colossal misjudgment!
