Default Breaking News: Mazda to Unveil New Sports Car Concept at Tokyo Motor Show

    OK, now THIS is interesting.

HIROSHIMA, Japan, Sept. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Mazda Motor Corporation will hold the world premiere of a new sports car concept model at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, which runs from October 30 through November 8.*1 A total of 14 models will be on display at the Mazda stand, including crossover concept Mazda KOERU making its first appearance in Japan, two racing-spec Mazda Roadsters (known as Mazda MX-5 outside Japan) and the Cosmo Sport (110S outside Japan), first introduced in 1967.

    272047.jpeg

The design of the sports car concept to be unveiled in Tokyo is modern but maintains a sense of lineage and authenticity, appearing almost to condense Mazda's entire history of sports car development into a single model.

In line with the company's theme for the Tokyo Motor Show this year, "Accelerate toward our dreams," Mazda will make an appeal for the brand's unique approach to driving pleasure. In addition to the sports car concept, Mazda KOERU will be on display along with new-generation models featuring SKYACTIV Technologies and KODOSoul of Motion design. A motor sports exhibit will feature racing-spec Roadsters and the Cosmo Sport will complement a heritage display showing Mazda's history of convention-defying engineering.

Please god, no rotary engine on this one!

(and by the presence of the Cosmo in the same floor, it looks like it will have one gawddamit).

I imagine the rotary can't happen in the States anymore due to stricter emissions and efficiency regulations.

I used to own an FD and that engine was so sweet... right up to the point that it blew up at 105k miles.

Well, I think Fiat/Mazda had been working on a syder collab (MX-5/Alfa Syder now Fiat 124) and GT (Alfa 6C/This concept) products just before Sergio had another one of his "epiphanies" . Take a look. MAYBE this is the result and vv THIS vv will give us a better idea of dimensions for the Mazda concept....

I always felt a winning formula would be two doors, three rotors and four seats.

Rotors over the fabulous sound of an Alfa Romeo V6?

Three rotors, sure, but an Alfa V6 would be cool too, if it could keep its fluids contained.

    I'm guessing a 2.5 turbo 4 with around 300 hp in a <3000 pound 2 seat coupe.

Brent, you can't post a slightly dickish comment about Alfa reliability right after you've been asking to have a rotary engine.
That would like Richard asking someone how much they paid for their S2000.

I fully accept the irony of my previous statement. Sometimes the truth is weird like that.

I did read once that a Rotary could run on kerosene. If it can run on kerosene, diesel isn't far away.

Are you implying that Alfa's are subject to premature ejaculation?

I saw this on another forum. I wonder if this is it? This looks a little more swoopy than the silhouette car.

That is beautiful. A japanese corvette.

Per google translate, rotary engine, 300hp, skyactive, aluminum materials, 200 lbs lighter than rx8. Most importantly, "front mask of personality." Sounds too good to be true. Next they will tell me its affordable.
