I drove the 235iM and it was totally underwhelming. Numb steering, flat powerband, felt heavy and disconnected. It did not need more power or bigger tires, it needed more driving involvement. I doubt this M2 is any different.

Itīs not any technology by itself that has made cars boring to drive, itīs a combination of them: electric steering, turbocharged engines, e-diffs, electronic nannies, automatic transmissions, fake noise generators, etc.

BTW, I just bought a M3 E36 Euro (321hp) and itīs fantastic. Guess Iīm just getting old.

It's like they want a car for every niche, which ends up creating a lot of overlap and sameness.

all I need is a 3, and 5, a 6 (if you are middle age and don't want a Porsche) and a 7 (if you have Richard's money).

    A base engine, a midrange, and an M. That's all I need.

Oh, and for hipsters you can have the i8. I'm okay with that.

    Kill the rest with fire.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love a 2800lb beastly M car to come out but they are not sports cars. They're not meant to be sports cars (e30 m3 being the exception). But NOBODY comes close to beating the M cars at what they do. Moderately priced sedans that punch above their weight, great for tooling around with the kids and groceries, and still fun to drive.

    Yeah.

My wife wants a 911, but she blew up her 10ae by not checking the oil, then high centered the IS300 on a rock backing out the driveway. I also know she hasn't washed it in 3 months. A 911 ain't happening.

Interesting logic. If you follow it how would you call the drivers of convertibles with fake roll hoops

Agreed! When fake noise generators came on BMW's I wrote letters to BMW expressing my displeasure. I'm sure fell on deaf ears but maybe just maybe.... The real problem with the fake noise it is incestuously embedded in the nav/entertainment/stereo system and you can't turn off fake noise without gutting the entire system.
