News: 2015 Shelby GT350R First Ride | SVTPerformance

“…Last week brought out our GT350R and our GT350 Track Pack here at Grattan to do fair, back-to-back same day, same driver comparison. The GT350R with the Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires is equal to the hundredth of a second as fast as the Porsche 911 GT3 and it is over a second quicker than the Z28,” Chief Functional Engineer, Global Performance Vehicles at Ford Motor Company, Kerry Baldori said. “The base GT350 with the Track Pack, which uses the Pilot Super Sport tire, is equal again, to within a hundredth of a second, to the Porsche Carrera and the Corvette C7 with the Z51 package.”

Stock GT350 Equal to the stingray? Ok, that's pretty impressive.

In the world of American sports cars, it's been a long time since a Mustang could give a Corvette a run for its money. This thing is awesome.

Maybe a slow jog? 300lbs more for 40hp on the slowest corvette convertible isn't a great trade.

I think the 350 is pretty cool but how do you argue buying one over a vette when the the lightweight car is like 3600lbs IIRC?

For the looks, engine, sound, extra room, lower price, more powerful engine, etc... The C7 is a fantastic looking and driving 2-seater sportscar with a lot of cool features, and GM stepped it up with this car greatly over the C5 & C6. I like it a lot. For a less expensive GT350TP to match a C7 Z51 with a 526hp flat plane crank engine on track is phenomenal. And the 350 looks a lot better in person and its wider front fenders and lower hood give the car a far better, sleeker, and more proportionate look than the EB & GT.

Nice dig, except its irrelevant. My comment was regarding street manners, not track times, where torque curve is irrelevant. Where do you spend most of your time when driving on the street? Under 3.5K rpms? Yes.

If I want more torque at WOT below 3,500rpm, I downshift. Or if I want instant torque in said scenario, I'd buy a positive displacement supercharged car.

The in-car video is really hard to watch. It's so herky-jerky. I think the passenger is holding the camera in his hand.

It's probably a gopro mounted to the drivers helmet. I don't really like videos like that either.

This looks like its mounted to the car:

Whoa, carbon wheels in that price range? That's the biggest surprise of all.

So, how long until we get a 6ULCarbon?
