    Default TrackHQ iRacing Series

There has been some interest in a TrackHQ iRacing series so I thought I'd throw something together and see if it sticks. Given the various time zones involved what time and day would work best for everyone for a 1 hr block of iRacing?

8pm PST Thursdays? Any other thoughts?

    Basic rules:
    • Spec Car - MX5 cup car / fixed setup
    • No full motion simulators - fixed base cockpits only. Dining room tables allowed.
    • Alternate pedals (hydraulic/load cell/etc) allowed
    • All driver aids allowed
    • Any shifter allowed
    • Maximum of 3 monitors
    • Headsets will make life easier and more fun and less irritating for the SO.
    • Don't crash out the organizer

    Series details pending.

    Start practicing.

Fixed setup = spec simulator racing?
I.E. everyone has the same setup on their cars.

Looks like I'll be downloading iRacing in the near future. And dusting off the triple monitors once again.

Thursdays at 8pm work for me.

No setup changes to the car allowed. Not sure if this is an option for hosted races so I need to verify it. OTH I'm not against opening setup changes if thats what most want but I'm trying to keep it simple for everyone and the setup changes complicate things.

So, this means no adjustment to any settings such as camber, toe, spring rate, etc? I am in favor of this, since I can't setup a car for sh*t.

I tried setting up the MX-5 once. Undrivable is the word that best describes it. Fixed setup is good. Is there a baseline on iRacing?

Yes, it has default settings you can use. They are OK, but the car pushes like a plow on throttle and the brake bias is a bit too forward. On the other had, it's relatively safe.

I tried iRacing back in 2010 and had the same experience. The car felt like it was on ice. I think the tire model was "off".

I know others have had the same experience. Has iRacing improved since then to the point where the cars drive realistically?

    I Found this promo for 3 months for $5 - PR-New5Dollar

Looks like there could also be a referral bonus that could be used. I'd prefer if this went to someone putting in the time to organize the series (markn).

I really hope all these negative comments about the iRacing Physics @ Tire model are just excuses for sucking. i really like the new tire model for GT6, much improved over GT5 in terms of braking and lateral balancing and how it feels going over the limit of the tire, I guess this will be my baseline for comparing to iRacing.

Aren't there settings you can adjust on iRacing to make the physics more realistic? I know on GT6 where you need to put the steering wheel setting on simulator instead of the ****y arcade mode.

^ So true. I revised my opinion. The physics aren't that bad. Somewhere around GT6 territory. Definitely good enough.

Here's a bit of what goes in to building a car in iRacing -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFYzcMB5PwY

Particularly neat how they go to great lengths to calculate the masses, inertias, etc of various sections/parts of the car (around 18:00 in the video)

They also laser-scan the tracks to make them perfectly accurate, etc...

I am in. Just let me know when.
Btw all you guys saying the physics are horrible most likely are not taking the time to set up your equipment. It's a proffesional level sim. It requires work on your part to make sure everything is working as it should.
Your wheel and pedal settings are crucial.
It's like going out and slapping new tires on with pressures that the guy who mounted them set and then you complain about the results.
Also look into FOV settings. That can help a lot as well.
If you post your setups I maybe can pull some baseline settings that will help.

Sorry everybody. I was trying for a shakedown session this evening but due to the near freezing temps I'm shuffling race cars from the storage lot to the shop to keep them from blowing cookies instead.

How about 8:00 PST Monday Dec 29 for a inaugural shakedown event? Please speak out. I'd hate to be the only one on track.
