Default Are there karts with roll bar / cages?

I did some searching and haven't had any luck. The closest thing I could find to a kart with a roll bar / cage I think are 1/4 midgets.

My 8 year old son expressed some interest in karts but after I nearly beheaded a woman at the local MB-2 - if the kart didn't have a roll bar she would likely have been seriously hurt - I'm thinking my wife won't okay a kart without some extra protection. I'd prefer more a typical road racing style kart rather than an kart designed for oval tracks. Thanks for any ideas.

Put him in a mini dwarf at Ventura Raceway. Fully caged.

If you end up getting him a proper road kart, also get a Leatt style neck brace, not the little foam ring ones. My son races his kart with his old mountain bike neck brace, but you can get a kart specific one. These help prevent neck injuries if they get thrown out and land on their heads.

PS - I've only ever seen hire karts with rollbars. Obviously you would need a harness as well for them to be effective.

Not a bad idea I might look into.

I started in the late 60's in an early 60's 1/4 Midget with a simple roll bar (top pic, ya that's me), modern ones have more elaborate cages (bottom pic).
