Default Coronado Vintage races 9/17-18 schedule.

Appears Sunday they are planning 2 races for each group, instead of a warm up session Sunday morning.
They want to get more cars on track for full sessions, so finishing order sets the grid for the next race.
More cars racing on track for full sessions better for all, racers and spectators.

    Schedule.

Fun video covers some of the military displays and the racing too.

Nice mix in our combined 10b and 12 race group.
I think the giant killers have a good chance on the tight track.
    In 10b IMSA GTO/GTU cars.
In Group 12 Jeff Klein (yellow Ginetta G-4), Jimmy B. in the 911 RSR, and Chad P. in the 911 ST.

32 cars in my group 8. That's a pretty full field!

    Interesting breakdown of manufactures

    4-Datsun
    7-Alfa
    6-Porsche
    8-BMW
    4-Lotus
    1-Ferrari
    1-Triumph
    1-Daimler

Boris Said was in our group last year in a 2002. He has some serious skills!

Good luck, guys! One day I hope to have a car that gets me into Coronado.

This one would be cool. It's currently for sale on Racing Junk, but I'm still saving.

Pretty amazing they have been able to provide the Navy base and close half the Navy airport for these races for all of these years.
9/11 was the only year they were at an elevated security level that required the races to be canceled.

Back in th 80s I was a Navy Air Traffic Controller at North Island (facsfac) and on an Air Craft Carrier (cv-61) stationed at North Island.
Racing at North Island is like coming home.

    Bummer!

CONSTRUCTION FORCES CANCELLATION OF 2017 CORONADO SPEED FESTIVAL
    NOVEMBER 10, 2016 BY SVRA
Notice was received that the Coronado Speed Festival at North Island Naval Base cannot take place in 2017. The Naval Base Coronado XO cited that due to ongoing runway/taxiway repairs and construction projects, the Naval Base Coronado would not be able to support the event.
“I cannot articulate how much this event resonates within me personally, and throughout the racing community,” said Tony Parella, SVRA President and CEO. “We are hopeful and optimistic that we may continue the Coronado Speed Festival’s great racing traditions in 2018.”

IIRC, decades ago the quiet town of palm springs had for a few years a concourse d'elegance at the airport. I can't remember if they had some kind of track set-up gunning to be the next Pebble beach/monterey historics. It would be cool to see a SVRA venue in Palm Springs.

The SVRA 2017 schedule has a few combined events with the Pro Trans Am series.
Cal Speedway in April might be fun watching the 900hp Trans Am cars on the Roval.
Not my favorite track but considering participating in the SVRA 80/90s vintage Trans Am group.
