I remember as a kid watching the TransAm races before the F1 grand prix on the street circuit in Detroit. They were quite good live and a bit more exciting.

Not a great race car, but wish I never sold this car. Was my first that I bought on my own.

In the day the E type was fantastic.

I want the Exige, I own the Elise. Plenty of car for a lowly mechanic.

I have always said that if you want a super car, but don't have the talent of a race driver, the R8 is the car for you.

    The Dino is just beautiful.

anything is obtainable, the question is how hard are you willing to work for it.

Check with Richard on the 10 grand. Rumor has it he spent a small fortune on an s2000 recently, clearly he has more disposable income than me.

I think we have gotten a little off course from the "within reach race cars" part of the OPs question . . .

I am surprised nobody listed my dream cars (kinda attainable). Group B rally cars. They were so dangerous that was banned right away.

I really think this is the future very high dollar collectible cars. As in 10-20 years.

    3. Nissan AWD GTiR Pulsar (JDM) (if you have to stay in the states it would be replaced by the 240sx)

I've got on on my list...

Audi Quattro Sport S2 Group B rally car

I think a clone of said car would be more attainable though

Does a CX-5 diesel really qualify as a racecar these days?
