Default Your Top Five Favorite "Within Reach" Racecars

What are your five favorite cars that you'd like to own and think you could pull the trigger on. Stretch a little but don't bother with dream cars like a Daytona Prototype, F1, etc.

    I'll start.

I'm pretty happy with my car and grateful to have one, so Spec Miata.

Formula Mazda. Putting go-fastish bits on a passenger car then calling it a racecar is silly.

Here's my list, in no particular order:
    1. BMW e36 M3
    2. Spec MX-5 (If I ever build a race car, it'll most likely be this)
    3. Spec Racer Ford
    4. Spec Miata
    5. Formula Ford

NA Miata with NB2 engine. daily/autocrosser/trackday bro. This is my daily. So much fun to drive.

    95r_2.jpg

    C6 Z06. Occasional commuter/autocrosser/trackday/road trip mobile. Ultimate everyman's supercar. Genuine 200mph bone stock, <$50k.

    c6z_800px_driveway.jpg

Stock car for road racing. These can be found, ready to race for less than $30k. I'd run a few ST1 races and just generally hoon it. 700hp, 2700#, 14" wide slicks, dog box. Yes, thank you.

    32208179-526-undefined.jpg

NA2 NSX. Drool. Not sure what I would do with it but it's so lovely.

    hondansxrconversion.jpg

CX-5 Sky-activ Diesel. Not available in US until next year it looks like. I got a chance to drive a euro market diesel CX-5 briefly. Fun to drive, comfy, cool looking, quiet, wacky fuel economy.

I just did a story in the April Speed News on one of those stock cars. Crazy how little they cost.

You have a point, though statistics are against you.
But with that in mind, my vote is for the Lotus / Caterham 7 because it's just the opposite, being a tube frame racecar with some passenger carish bits and calling it a street car.
It's silly, but the good kind of silly.

I'd add a Porsche 911 race car, fun to drive on the limit and very reliable.

If you are considering a tube chassis stock car you might like a late 80s or newer Trans Am car too.
The last of the non computer simple and affordable tech race cars.
It's tough to race with Stock cars because they slow down so soon.

    Going mostly old school

Had a Superformance 427 version, it was superbadass... I'd like to have a 289 version.

Almost bought one of these after I sold the Superformace Cobra... Had cash in hand and decided not to last minute. Stupid.

    NSX. It's just so right.

2008 Honda 1000RR Euro Tricolor. I have the bike, but that color scheme makes it. Some day..

Original Viper GTS. Grew up in love with this car. Later on when I learned about all its quirks and drawbacks I was too in love to care. The logical reasons to go corvette over this would probably win out for me in the end if I was really buying one, but the corvette doesn't make me drool like these do.

Lotus 211... Because it's a track-only car anyways, I wouldn't feel bad changing some things about it and making it perfect

And of course, my very own cheap enough that I have no reservations about cutting, welding, and zip tying anything and everything!

I was checking that out when they rolled out in Australia. There, the diesel is rated at 1800kg braked, 750kg unbraked (3960 and 1650 pounds respectively. I would consider it as a DD for myself, but it may be a bit underpowered for towing a SPM on an open trailer. I agree with Emilio and think it is a handsome vehicle.

The gas versions here are rated at 2000 lbs.
