Default WSIR 4-17 Burgoon's lap times, s2000 vs. crown vic

This is Rob driving my car in the 4th session with the timing in my name "Andrew Troutner" with a best time of 1:38.012
    lap-times-4-17.jpg

This is Rob's 3rd session in his s2000 with a best of 1:38.229
    lap-times-2.jpg

and this is Rob's 2nd session in his s2k with his best for the day at 1:37.329

Not that anybody particularly cares.. but I like it and Rob seems to like it too

Cool. Almost as fast as a 119whp hair dresser's car.

Aren't S2000s good for low 1:30's in stock trim?

    No. Lol

AFAIK the s2k NA record is a 1:29. Great weather, fresh RC1s, some bolt ons and aero. I think the fastest stockish s2k I've seen was 1:35 IIRC. And that had sticky street tires, alignment and maybe even springs. Both great drivers. Brian Bengali and Gary Yeung respectively. This is all off memory so take it with a grain of salt.

The S2000 is crushing it in the stock wheels, <$100 a tire class

I don't know.. maybe under ideal conditions on Hoosier's? I think my car has a couple more seconds to be gained just with setup and tire pressures. I did three laps and pulled in for a quick suspension adjustment, after which the starter failed and I spent the rest of the session figuring out what was going on with that. After things cooled down a bit I was able to get the car started using a jumper wire to the solenoid and that sent Rob on his way. After Rob's session the jumper wire just melted so my main concern shifted to what it was going to take to get home. Now I'm looking at the various ways to measure downforce so I can see exactly where it is now, as it was during Rob's session, and how much I cam improve upon that.. and I'm also thinking about a taller, steeper rear spoiler, or possibly building a big wing for the back

You should just make it into a NASCAR. Give it a COT splitter, a honking large splitter, and a beer holder.

How did you manage to find an unreliable component in Vic? Owner neglect if you ask me.

1:33.8 out of a stock power non aero S2000 on RE71R's and a 1:30.X in a stock powered S2000 with Aero on RE71R's this weekend at Vtec Club. There was also a 1:29 from an s2k with street tires, aero, and a 2.4.

That said, a 1:37 on crap tires is very quick!

1:37.3 is better time than it appears. Because that was from second session. Past 11am. I was 1.2 second faster in 1st session than 2nd session, and I had traffic in 1st session. 2nd session was warmer and windy. So I am pretty sure Rob could of done a high 35s

Maybe the car could have, but I need a session to work up to going fast without safety gear. Butt sliding around while the car is sliding around while doing triple digits is spooky. Doubly so in a twitchy butt car.

The other issue in the first session was a bad smell. Turns out it was the miata ahead, not my car, but bad smells make you wonder what's about to happen.

Looks like the fast one starts at 2:30, but the one starting at 9:20 is probably the best quality one (save for the turn 9 that started it)

I think I would be a solid 1.5sec slower driving a s2k with a stock seat vs a fixed back. You really have to drive that car with your butt and if it's sliding around that's tough.

That's some good driving Rob. Those street tires don't look too bad either. What are they? When I sold my Miata to my brother I told him to only use the ****tiest all-seasons he could find to keep things loose and fun.

    Thanks! Recipe is as follows:
    04 s2000
    AP1 clutch slave
    rollbar
hawk DTC 60 front, 30 rear (might need higher temp pads in rear)
wilwood exp 600 plus brake fluid
    595 RSR 225/45-17 $85
    595 RSR 255/40-17 $95
max camber all around, factory toe.
stock wheels, stock suspension, stock sways, stock power, stock seat

For the laps I could probably brake harder into 3 and try throwing the car into 1,2, and 9. Or not.

Those tires would probably benefit from more slip angle. Were you lifting for 8?

I reviewed an old, pre-aero video with the MR2. It was pretty loosey goosey before adding aero, but it looks planted on turn 8. That's probably because it's not going fast enough.

Some part throttle in 8, but by the end of session 3 was doing it flat most of the laps.

The car is pretty much loose everywhere, so adding more slip angle is difficult without flopping around. The car also seems to like to pogo a bit when I over do it. Might need more damping than stock, or fresher dampers.

Maybe some games with tire pressure would help. The car would likely really benefit from Moti's spoiler at speed.

To make a long story short: Rob can't outrun the police in his sports car.
