Default When was your First time on a race track?

Please state the track, the exact day, what group, what year make model car you were driving, and lap time if you happen to know (transponder, stopwatch, video).

    I'll start.

    Thunderhill Raceway CCW Over T5 - August 17, 2007 with T.E.A.M. Racing - 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9 - 2:32.xxx

I had sooo much fun. My instructor drove a white 1997 E36 M3. Good times. Now I am broke and addicted to the track.

Video of my 2nd track day ever. Not too shabby.

Summer of 2006, Streets of Willow, 1994 Miata, Redline track event with Jeremy Croiset as my instructor. Later, Jeremy borrowed Chris's (Redline head dude) S2000 and showed me how to drive a stook fast. Holy moly, that was an awesome ride!

Sears Point Raceway... with Nasa (I think?) in the spring of '93.
Rocking the '89 5.0 LX Mustang with swaybars and some flavor of under 300-ish treadwear Yoks in 225/60/15 on the factory 15x7s.

If I was lucky (and my buddy's 510 was broken, which was often) I got to run on his Centerline 15x8s with sticky 225/50/15s.
I was ecstatic running mid 2:20s back then.

Can't remember what times I ran at Laguna Seca later that year... but I do remember being too scared to run Big Willow without a rollbar... (though I was just fine finding the top speed on my buddy's '86 IROC on the 680 through Walnut Creek... young and stupid, for sure!)

Streets of Willow - 1:29.xxx via transponder
    2001 Toyota MR2 Spyder
    ~119whp, ~1950 lbs w/o driver
    Hankook RS3

Intermediate group with Extreme Speed as I recall it. (yes, my first time out). I'm seeing a red wrist band in the video though, which confuses me.

It was terrifying and thrilling at the same time, both because of the "responsive" nature of a light MR car like the Spyder where any mistake can end with a spin. I alternated between "I can't do this, what was I thinking, I'm not cut out for this sport" to "wheeeeeee." Now I mostly just feel "Wheeeeeeeee." Interestingly, with the addition of a hard top and rear wing, my time improved at SOW by only a mere 3.xx seconds, all else staying mostly the same. I think I've been there at least 5 times now.

NASA HPDE1 in November 2007 in my first 1995 Miata. Buttonwillow No. 13 CW, in the rain.

I called my wife after the second session and told her, "I'm never not doing this."

May 2005 (cant remember exact date, but it was just before the Carrera GT accident)
    Redline Track Events (?)
    AutoClub infield course
    Novice group -- No transponder/time

Near stock Ford Focus hatch with Eibach Prokit springs and only money enough for a set of front 215/40/16 Azenis (rears were still OE Pirelli P6's). Didnt think too much of the whole HPDE scene until after, when i became absolutely addicted. This promptly turned into joining the Focus Challenge with Redline at this Buttonwillow event later in '05 (still with crap rubber but ran a 2:21.xxx i believe / BW13):

I refuse to play on the grounds the rules are not fair to us older guys. Sorry but Horse drawn cart in the desert (where Willow Springs is now)around the stakes in the ground, does nothing for your ego.

Auto Club Speedway Roval with speed ventures in my 2008 350Z. 11/23/08. Best lap of the day was 2:17.964, and it felt fast!

Fun track to learn on, especially since I was oblivious to all the things near the track to run into.

This is the problem with self placement.
It is your first time on a track, why are you signing up for inter group?

    Mine -
September 2001, NASA HPDE1-2 at Sears point which was under construction at the time with T9 cutting across the drag strip and connecting into T2.
Ran my turbo Miata for 2 days and had a blast.
Can't remember the name of the instructor, but he had a supercharged E36 M3 with ~400 ponies and was very entertained by the Miata drove.

WHR - outside Detroit, maybe '89 or '90. I was doing fun laps with my dad in a company engineering test mule. It was a Saab 9000 with experimental electronics and engine components on it.

When: January of 2012, less than a week after getting my driver's license.
Where: Virginia International Raceway Full course
What: I was driving a 1981 corvette with autozone brake pads, loose control arm bolts, and decades old BFG radial t/a tires. Automatic transmission.
    Lap time? lol

Don't ask me how it passed tech, I was handed the keys and told to drive.

Stop romanticizing. And tell us of really happened. You were wrenching for 2 days instead of driving for 2 days.

Didn't even touch the tools the entire weekend.
First day out you don't drive fast enough to break things... also, as opposed to many ghetto fabbed shade tree wrenched together turbo projects, this one was a solid car with all new parts and an FM2 full kit, all the pieces that were considered "the good stuff" at the time and so forth.

If anything, I thought that YOU would have something to say about the first part of my previous post.

Getting old since I can't remember the exact date but would have been back in 1997 or 1998. Was preparing a 1986 Golf GTI for ITB class and did a track day at Homestead Motor Speedway to see if I would enjoy it.

In 1995 at Streets of Willow with with Los Angeles Shelby Club, in my 1966 Mustang with lap belts... I remember going to Buttonwillow when it first opened in 1997. It was a road race course then and not the rally cross track it is now.
