Isn't it by country, not by manufacturer? Like, Bugatii is blue because France's is blue, Honda rolls with White because that's Japan's, etc.

I like body in white. Isn't that how most factory racers are painted?

    i thought honda was red?
    ford is blue
i thought "body in white" is a term for the shell from the factory. probably painted white for ease and cost since customers will repaint or sticker it anyway.
aircraft are painted white to more easily see fluid leaks and cracks.

found wiki's definition: Body in white or BIW refers to the stage in automotive design or automobile manufacturing in which a car body's sheet metal components have been welded together but before moving parts (doors, hoods, and deck lids as well as fenders) the motor, chassis sub-assemblies, or trim (glass, seats, upholstery, electronics, etc.) have been added and before painting.

we used the term at ford but i wasn't in the body group so i didn't understand the exact definition

The McClaren F1 car colors are ugly compared to their competition. Ferrari, Lotus and Red Bull all look much better.

German cars were traditionally white. But IIRC many years ago there was a class with a maximum weight, and Mercedes ended up taking the paint off to make that weight, hence the birth of the Silver Arrow.

British cars were (surprise) green. US cars were white with blue stripes, French cars were blue... Italian cars (surprise!) red.

Top Gear covered this. The story was some british event lost their venue and got Ireland to host it. The british racers painted their cars green to honor the hosts and it stuck.

Referring to Mazda: the green, white, and orange were not their colors but were from clothing brand Renown. They've become synonymous, for sure, but afaik they don't have a solid color set. I think the closest might be blue, silver, and black, given the 792b and various IMSA cars.

The legend says that Colin Chapman was looking for paint colors that he'll always be able to find in a nearby store in case a car got damaged in one race and needed to be fixed for the next one in a hurry.
The John Deere colors were available from every farm store in Britain so they were chosen as the paint scheme.

Lotus also ran Black and Gold in the JPS sponsorship era and that pops back up every now and again, as evident by the current line up in F1.
