Default What is your home track?

What track do you consider your "home track?" I don't mean the best road course you have ever driven in your life, but the local track that you love to run. I'll start. The big track at Willow Springs Int'l Racway in Rosamond, California. "The fastest road in the world." The oldest road course in the USA, built in 1953. Yes, older than Watkins Glen. I never tire of driving WSIR.

I've seen your posts about BRP Richard, and I will follow up with Buttonwillow is my favorite despite it's short comings. IMO, Willow gets boring after 3 sessions. Only 9 turns... And besides, wasn't Buttonwillow designed by the only American to ever win an F1 Championship, Phil Hill?

    John -

WSIR is not boring if you are going balls out into Turn 9 (and Turn 1 for that matter). It's all about how much are you willing to risk your life. Buttonwillow is all about how much you want to go bumpity bumpity bumpity.

P.S. I don't think Phil Hill designed Buttonwillow. I think a teeny weeny hill on the track that used to be called Magic Mountain was re-named after Phil Hill after his death. Don't get me wrong. I am a big Phil Hill fan, but I don't believe he was a race track designer. And if he was, Buttonwillow was the disaster of his career . . .

BTW, John, I am not disrespecting you. Your 1:26.xx lap at WSIR is pretty incredible. Way faster than I have ever gone around my favorite local track . . .

I totally respect Big Willow. I remember going into T8 for the first time, and my brain kept telling me I was going to die...

Haha!!! Only once in my life, I spun in Turn 8. In my seriously modified big hp oversized turbo '04 Evo VIII RS on RComps. The car slid so hard that one of the tires blew out!!! Quite an experience . . .

BRP for me. It was my first track day and I have the most experience there. Love the variety of corners and speeds at the track.

Willow Ranch BBQ had become a great bonus / tradition for my crew during the weekends up there.

Richard, BRP is pretty smooth now since the repave. It's not the same track as before. Now it's faster, and better!

Well, it was Mosport for me before I moved.

Not sure now...Buttonwillow? If I didn't need to leave the track compound to cool off the car I would give it higher marks...

Sears Point. Fell in love with it first time I hit the Wednesday night Sport Drags at age 16... been driving down the esses thanks to those Wednesday nights since... '88
Finally got around the track in it's entirety in... '92 or '93.

Lost count of how many laps I have around the place, sadly they've just been spread out across 20 years or so.

The one I consider my 'hometown' track is one I spent the most time at, learned most of what I know.

Now, it *should be* VIR, but I haven't found time to go yet. I have spent more time at Atlanta Motorsports Park, Dawsonville GA, because of it's proximity to friends when I visit, which usually coincides with HPDEs.

It's small, but a good challenge. I enjoy it because it is more rewarding when driven aggressive.

Sebring- flat, bumpy concrete, but i still love it! For me, there's a romance attached to that curcuit. It's like I'm channeling past drivers when I'm on it. Turn 1 feels so good when you get it right, and instinctively taming those bumps while going through that corner-AWESOME! Turn 17 (sunset) is the same way. Now, I'm only 1.5 hours away!

    Laguna.

Followed by the old loop of Reno-Fernley (which I don't think is even used anymore). Which is pretty similar to WSIR in a lot of ways (fast, flat out), I suppose.
