Default what do you guys think of new TypeR?

Officially, it's the first Civic TypeR we could get here.
    It's around 2900lbs and 320hp(euro spec).
Front is equipped with both LSD and torque-vectoring. Since torque steer seems to be eliminated, 2018 TypeR is supposed to be much faster than current gen STI and Focus RS.
Yes it's fwd but it's almost 400-600lbs lighter than its competitor and a hatch with S2000/cayman curb weight.

    What do you guys think?

Actually I think modern japanese sports cars are fugly including my 15 STI, 14 FRS.
New TypeR is just uglier to a new level.
    Except ND miata looks great.

I guess all designers who created FD, R34, NSX mark1 had already retired.

Maybe I'm getting too old but it looks horrific.

If cars make a statement, this one says: "I have an 84 month car loan, no student debt, and I make a lot of bad choices".

I think it's really ugly but I'm oddly drawn to it. Maybe it's because that's how I would have made my CRX look back when I was 19 if I had the money/skills. That '91 CRX Si was my first new car and I had it for 8 years and 150k miles. It took me through the Army, college then out West. I guess I have a soft spot for Civics, even ugly ones.

Something I've noticed though lately is that this current Civic is no longer a remotely small car. I've seen a few lately and thought they were Accords. When will the Civic officially be a midsize car?

Interestingly, current civic isn't a heavy car at all considering all kinds of airbag etc.
Regular civic is 27xx to 3000lbs fully loaded one with sunroof, cvt.
New TypeR is much bigger one but not heavier than FD2 TypeR(2780lbs).

OK, now that's some funny ****, right there.

At first blush, this car is a bit over the top in terms of design, but I'm not convinced it won't grow on me. Honda goes pretty "Buck Rogers" with its designs fairly often, but in five years it might still look fresh.

Fun fact: the center-exit exhaust takes away trunk space.

    really, really ugly

like a modern day Pontiac Aztec

they should make a clean "limited" version without all of the over the top, non-functional styling crap if they want anyone over 30 to buy it

I like the idea of a vastly simplified, de-aero'd version. I recall the old SN-95 Mustang LX of the mid 80's. Exact same car as the tupperware clad GT but completely bare bones. Only clue was big tires, 5.0 badge on fender and twin exhaust tips. Weighed 150lbs less, cost about $3k less and was faster.

I always preferred the LX over the GT Mustangs, especially the LX coupe. I'd still like to have one of those.

For this crowd, and enthusiasts in general, I kept comparing it with the Mustang. When I saw the pricing on the Type R, I laughed. Fail wheel drive, detention room styling, strung out turbo 4. The mid $30k pricing puts in into V8 Mustang territory, or highly optioned Eco Boost. If I need the utility of the 4 door fastback, I would be looking at the WRX, Audi/VW models or something else more mature.
