Ouch! Very good addition. Can anyone figure out how to add Kimi to the list?

Alonso & Hamilton were the best drivers this year. If ALO hadn't been crashed into (Spa & Japan), he'd be WDC; in the 4th or 5th best car on the grid. Hamilton would have probably been WDC without all his reliability issues.

At the end of the day, Vettel was the best combo of car + driver.

One of the hallmarks of a great driver is, a driver that extracts the most out of his machine even if it isn't performing well. Alonso did that all year and never once did he bad mouth anyone. Vettle has benefitted from Adrian's work and called people gherkins along the way, used the F bomb, and acts like its his right to be on the track and all must yield. Lewis great driver good car, had a team that didn't want it bad enough. So 1. Alonso 2. Hamilton and 3. Vettel, unsung heroes Webber and Massa, and without a doubt Kimi most entertaining.

Alonso. The way he muscled that Ferrari and consistently got every ounce of performance out of it made him the clear choice for me. Next would be a toss up between Hamilton and Vettel.

Imo Vettel is not Proven yet. Yes he is 3 times world champion. But he is also driving Adrian Newey car. Which has won most of championship in the last 2 decades

Average qualy pace is maybe 5th to 10th on grid. Massa struggled with car for 50% of the season. As the car improved so did Massa's results. It is Alonso who so such an amazing driver he can make pigs fly. All that = Ferrari is slow

Agreed. If I had to pick just one, I'd go with Alonso, though. The way he muscled that Ferrari to score podiums and points at the beginning of the season when the chassis didn't seem anywhere near competitive was amazing.

I think Kimi has definitely earned an honorable mention. For someone who has been out of F1 for a couple of years to perform that well for a team that hasn't been that competitive in recent years is impressive. He also was the only driver to have zero retirements and he scored points in every race except for one.

Driver of the year - Alonso (only by the smallest of margins for me, he really did such a fantastic job to be fighting for WDC and help Ferrari get 2nd in the WCC)

#2 Driver of the year - Hamilton (He would be WDC if McLaren had their **** together this year w blunders in the pits and reliability)

Honorable Mention - Kimi Raikkonen (On his comeback he finished 3rd in the WDC, and from all his driving this year, he has not lost any of his speed)

You had a season with more different winners, more world champions, and more variation in the field’s competitiveness than ever before. The Newey car was that much faster? Seb had 1 win in the first 13 races compared to Alonso's 3, and was on the podium a total of 4 times in those first 13. The pace didn't come to the RBR until Singapore. He maximized points when the car was off pace and then maximized points when the car was fast. During that time he also drove from the back of the pack in two different races at high pressure moments to get vital points.

I'm not saying he was the best driver this season. Alonso drove flawlessly this season short of Suzuka, and did it with class. As much as I don't like Ferrari I would have been just as happy to see Alonso win the title. I just don't see how many seem to still be discounting Seb's skill as a driver. He made some stupid mistakes (i.e. turn 4), and was both lucky and unlucky this season. If he hadn't had two alternator failures he would have been way ahead much like how Alonso or Hamilton would have had valuable points had it not been for Grosjean or mechanical failures.

I'm a Vettel fan and have been since his BMW Sauber days, yet I've been less than impressed with his behavior in the media lately. His comments about Narain Karthikeyan, the dirty tricks, and what he said about going to Senna's grave were tasteless. He still has a lot of growing up to do, but that doesn't take away from the fact that he's a very talented driver.

For me the best driver is a tie between Seb, Alonso, Kimi, and Hamilton. All of them were great this season, and I wish Lewis had the reliability to have made it a three horse race.
