Default Viper ACR: Try Two in a Row Mr. Hybrid

It really is impressive how this car trumps far more expensive machinery (Porsche 918, McLaren P1, etc.)

Isn't it mostly just wing, splitter, and stickier tires than the other guys are willing to do?

After having driven a Time Attack Viper, I was dumbfounded why its sales were so low. They are fantastic cars. With a push-rod V10, it's one of a kind.

There was a gentleman with one of these at CVR with SpeedVentures in March.

He consumed 2 sets of tires per day (OE Kumhos @$1500/set). He drove both days.

The other problem really is, anyone into time attack enough to look at this is asking, what kind of competition is out there. Where can one take this car and compete? Arguably if nobody bought one, theres nobody to drive against no? And its so far above its closest neighbors you will have just brought a gun to a knife fight on most track days.

    Do I want one? Yes.
    Will i buy one? Nope.
Will I be sad when it ends? Absolutely

That's my take on it. The aero package on the whole is pretty obscene. What other road car has vents over the front wheels?

I do not disapprove. I want one. This car perfectly symbolizes American excess, which I am a big fan of.

Yep. The Viper team is just playing by different rules than everyone else.

Well the GT3 RS does, however to my knowledge arent removable like the ACR's (does this actually improve pressure more than with the louvers in place?)

I drove one on the street last wknd. Car is rediculous. It's a factory race car that had street car stuff added to it. I wouldn't want to drive it around town but I can't wait to drive it on track. And I think they intended the "louvers" to come out for performance. If you see them they don't appear to be functional. I think they are a vent and if you remove them it's a bigger vent. But I'm betting the actual slats aren't assisting anything the way they're done.

It's a high pressure area over the wheel, contained in the wheel well, right? The purpose of the vent is to expel air to the outside, where it's lower, correct? I would have thought that without the louvers, air would tumble, making the transition less efficient.

Da' MAN, Andy Lally explains it for you here (1:30 if you don't have time)....

This car's a BEAST, but the folks that can afford it go for a more civilized corvette cause they know they can't tame it-they'll be dead long before.

This car's made for "us" but unfortunately priced for "them"! Probably only 10% of the people on this board can "afford" it (Ramen Noodle diet not necessary)

Look at the fender for any LeMans car. Same thing.

My understanding of the louver removal was to reduce effectiveness -- the teams would have left them on for better extraction.

Yeah, that hole in the LMPs was ACO-mandated along with the fins on the spine of the racer. Those mandates, along with a few others helped reduce sideways take-offs that were occurring due to that sideways profile turning into a wing at racing speeds.

I wonder how many fans have been told it's a tire inspection port.

Perhaps more critical...how many believed it?
