    Default TrackHQ private track opportunity?

UCFBrett sent me this link to the listing for the now closed Honda proving grounds out near CA City. Since half this forum, at least, drives Hondas it would be perfect. Who's with me?

    Default wow

Ready made race track for some rich guy, would be awesome.

7.5 mile oval track, how fast could you get around that in a Corvette?????

They are letting you rent it out? Awesome. Have a blast.

I was out in the area last month (Tehachapi) helping a friend on a film shoot and I remember looking at this place on Google maps thinking how awesome it'd be to go on there.

This place could be split into a bunch of venues, rented out independently of each other

-Oval/straight for magazine car top-speed testing/TV shows etc.(be much better than El Toro)

-Road course for racing clubs and track days. Spectator amenities added for top-tier racing

-Professional supercross/motocross track with spectator amenities added

    - 5 mile training course for rally (how easy would it be to build some cheap trails for a desert rally/trophy truck stage). A rally school could even be headquartered here with 24 hour access to private desert trails. There could be a rallycross area built for beginners

The whole shebang would still be a very expensive and risky endevour though.

This is a real estate opportunity Tom. We buy it, use it, rent it out to other . . . there's no limit to the fun that could be had.

Or maybe the guy who couldn't build his track outside Lancaster should just buy this instead.

I don't see much that could be used for a competition style road course. Fun to drive on maybe but not really appropriate for HPDE or W2w I don't think.

Aside from their cost I never understood why people race them.

Emilio, the one you have pictured is south of California City, which isn't the Honda facility. I don't know who owns/uses that track, but the one for sale is north of California City, closer to Cantil. This link might work:

    Bing Maps

Even so, you're right that the facility would need some improvements to serve as a place for racing and track days. It would need proper pit-in, pit-out lanes, corner worker stations, a tower or two and probably a bunch more. The road course itself is about three times larger than the Big Willow track, and you could probably rent out two road courses simultaneously. They're already split into two.

In addition to the oval and road courses, it also has testing grounds, suspension torture test pavement, a motocross course, dirt courses. There are also a couple of long straightaways where drag strip could go without too much trouble. It's probably a multimillion dollar proposition, but I hope an investor or group of investors can see the facility as we do: another place to race.

It could be a first-class facility. An added plus is that breathing in the dust won't kill you if you go off track during summer months.

I think that's Kia's track or something. Honda's is a little under that if I'm correct.

That's the whole point of the thread. It's like buying 1 Mega Millions ticket when it's $350 Million, you get to day dream of what you'd do with the money if you won. I'd buy the Honda Test track.

That's less than a house in Montecito. We can do this. Now someone start writing the business plan.

Well, it's a depressed real estate market. Assuming they'd take less than the 40 large they spent on it... you'd almost have a viable business case.

Might be hard to get enough water out there to grow grass.

We could play sand greens like back in the 30's. They really did play on sand greens. There was a groomer tool at each green and you would smooth out the line of your putt and bang away at it.
