I was planning that with a couple of guys.
but I thought there should be a goal. not much point to just fly out there, spend $5k, and HPDE around the Ring.
don't ask me what the goal should be. but a worthwhile goal to shoot for.... that's doable.

    $5k?

Flight is ~$1k, rental car is ~$60/day, hotel ~$100/day and both of those can be split up....

Every year I half plan it and give up due to time and other people willing to go with. Like William said, I'd want to do more than just lap in a 100whp econobox. Rent a race car or in a perfect world, ship the 400whp OGK over there when it's finished. Try to set what would certainly be a B to G Miata lap record but also be way up the list from production unit body cars.

Aside from their cost I never understood why people race them.
But obviously I just dont get it. -fatbillybob

I could see doing it in 2012 or 2013. But I also want to run HPDE at Spa Francorchamps in Belgium during the same trip. Rent a real race car for both.

try to go under 8 min in a reasonabley priced rental. try to survive going 10/10th thru eau rouge and pouhon at spa. and octoberfest. I dont know if these are goals. but should be fun. Dont known when you plan to do this Jeff. i think 2012 october-ish is doable for me, just for octoberfest sake. . hope the euro will go down even further by then.

I think that would be tough for a 'Ring n00b.

I'd love to one year. They say the Nurburgring is like any race track and you shouldn't be timing yourself until you're at least familiar with the corners (duh). Problem is there's way too many corners for a one-shot attempt.. Guess the answer is to practice in GT5, then drive it real for the first day to get used to track conditions real-life, then spend the next several days going faster and timing yourself. Would be very fun, and I agree, I'd only do it if I did it in a real race car.

I found some prices for race car rentals (ranging from mild to somewhat full race prepped including cage or roll bar) here Rent a Race Car 4 the Nurburgring Nordschleife from us, we offer track cars 4 both tourist Ring driving and trackdays on the North Loop. Special pricing for the evening offers during the week. Race car rental and more!

1 day use of 130hp Suzuki Swift car fully caged (300euro ~ $410)
    1 day use of 220hp VW Scirocco Cup+fully caged (589euro ~ $800)
    1 day use of 265 BMW Z4 3.0 no cage (699euro ~ $1000)
    1 day use of 996 320hp carrera +fullly caged (1099euro ~ $1500)
    1 day use of 997 GT3 3.8 Clubsport +fully caged (2500euro ~ $3400

    Half-day is like 35% less.
All cars include 2 potential drivers as part of package.

I think I'd want to rent the caged 911 Carrera. The all inclusive package with lap tickets and the first tank of gas is about $2,050 per day at current exchange rates. This is going to be a expensive trip.

I'd probably take the first from the list. The Suzuki. I imagine it as a FWD Miata. I'd rent for 3 days straight, split between another driver = ($410 x 3 days)/2=$615 for 3 days of as much driving as you can take. I wouldn't do the ring if I hadto worry about not gettign enough track time.

Minimum driver age is 30. Is there a maximum age?
