    Default Tesla P100D dyno

AWD Mustang dyno. They were still getting a touch of wheelspin (all four wheels!) just as it built to peak torque. Might have touched 1000 lbs/ft.

    588whp
    920 lbs tq

Now stick this powertrain into an attractive, two door car, and drop it's weight to 2500lbs - profit.

Isn't it like 1500lbs in battery alone? I hope by "doors" you include sheet metal on dzus fasteners in that definition.

Gonna take a few extra tubes just to keep the thing from snapping itself in half.

We have kicked around the idea of building an electric Miata. Two Tesla motors in the butt, trans tunnel and rear half of engine bay stuffed full of batteries. Perhaps 200whp, 400tq. Maybe 150mile range depending on how many batteries we can cram in there.
Might be able to get close to 45F/55R weight distribution. Much lower CG and MOI. 15x10's with 245/40 Rival-S. Could be fun.

I have no idea what that "eng torque" number is supposed to mean. Are they manually inputting the known fixed gear ratio of the Model S to calculate it?

I was hoping the electrification of cars would make dumb measurements like flywheel torque go away, but it seems like the opposite is occurring.

There's actually a pretty big movement with people converting retro cars into electric. One of the biggest retailers is EV West (EV West - High Performance Electric Vehicle Parts). For some reason, old VWs/Porsches are crowd favorites.
Probably easier to do it this route than using proprietary hacked Tesla equipment and controllers.

Many of them bolt up to the existing transmission to use the rest of the drive train. Use one or 2 gears and batteries to ballast the car.

Then build the chassis out of CF and make the wheels no bigger than 15s, thin windshield, etc. If Caterhams weigh in at 1200lbs-1400lbs, (sans engine/gearbox, I imagine they are around 1000lbs).

Also, I thought of this when I was replying:

In round numbers, the car weighs 5100 lb. and accelerates at about 1.2g (average). So that's a thrust at the road surface of 6120 lb (average).

The tire radius is more or less a foot, so at the axle (total for both f&r) you have 6120 ft*lb of Clarkson-approved torques.

    The drive ratio (motor to axle) is about 9.5:1. So 6120 / 9.5 = 644 ft*lb average for a 0-60 run. So 800 - 900 peak sounds reasonable.

it's not easy to visualize the tesla doing it, but apparently it's capable of an amazing holeshot. kind of interesting that tesla doesn't tout the car's 60 ft time more, but maybe that's because it's only drag racers that follow 60 ft times. i think i remember hearing the P90D does a 1.6 sec 60 ft time, which is usually only possible with big HP and drag slicks.

Just saw this Tesla Model S battery tear down video from EV West. Recycled for use in vintage Porsche or other project.
