    Default Race 3 ACS Aug 10, 2014

Inverted start. Sonny and I get a clear shot and rocket to the front. William (2nd in points) checks up behind Ed and Kevin. From past races, we know that if two guys get off the front and start fighting immediately, the fast guys behind will catch back up. I have won 3-4 races now after the two guys in front slowed each other down and opened the door for me. By T6 I see William caught behind Joe about 2s back. I decide it will improve my chances for the win if I link up with Sonny and not attack him for a few laps, open a gap on William. So I'm bump drafting wherever I can get to his bumper, backing off slightly in braking zones and not presenting anywhere to let him know I'm not attacking. I know he's still watching his mirrors like a hawk but will get down to business and cut some fast laps if he's not actively defending.

We do that for only about a lap and a half before catching the S2000. We let the S2K start with us after he said he was doing 1:55's, about 7s faster than us. For some reason he slowed dramatically on lap 2. I used him as a pick to get past Sonny. I hadn't planned on attacking that soon but the opportunity fell into my lap so I went for it. Once past Sony in T4, I dig a little deeper to open a 1-2s gap. Not happening in the infield though. He's too fast there. At ACS, if you can get in the draft in T1-2, it's pretty easy to get past into T3. From there it's also easy to hold someone off to the line if the cars are evenly matched. So I knew I needed a gap entering the front straight to keep Sonny from getting under me in T3. I try going flat into T16 (the last big left), facilitated by a downed apex cone (wasn't me!). It works and I not only open up 3-4 lengths on Sonny but carry a few more MPH. That seals the deal. Next few laps is just me focusing on hitting my marks but still pushing just shy of qual pace. One little bobble and I'm toast when Sonny, William or Andrew is back there.

Aside from their cost I never understood why people race them.

Qualified P3 (Caterham in front is not racing in class). Strategy and cooperation goes a long way towards winning here. It worked very well when William and I teamed up against Emilio for most of the race, which allowed me to lead the race until the last lap. This is when William loses brakes through T3 and balked both of us. Emilio then passed both of us on the exit of T4 for the win. I finished P2.

Reverse grid from Race 1, started P12, finished P3. There was an issue up front that botched the rolling start in this race since the pace was not steady. Lots of passing and action into the first braking zone.

After that, I spent most of the race behind Emilio and William since they both teamed up to keep me from drafting off them.
Driving to the limit is my goal.

I didn't team up with William in race 2 although it may have looked that way. He attacked me on virtually every straight but out braked himself just about as often. I need to get Junior onto the dyno. Me thinks it's down 5whp from the cap by the way William was motoring away.

rolling start - can't really do standing start with banked front straight.......

Could you have a standing start from the pit lane? It looks wider than Buttonwillows front straight.

Sonny, the foot cam is a hugely entertaining addition to your videos.

Thought about that briefly. Big drop exiting the pit lane to the apron plus the transition to the banking. Variables I as not prepared to play with. Besides, boiling into T3 at top speed from a rolling start is plenty fun.

Standing start after the declining radius turn in the infield. An interesting set of first turns....
To the right of The Sheriff. Isn't everyone?
