    Default Spec scion

Could the scion FRS be the new spec racecar? Atributes: Cheap, looks decent, claims sportiness, targets 20 something buyers, toyota family possible TRD support, manual and modern gearbox, light?

Certainly has potential, depends on if it has any durability issues.

Maybe one day, but I think that could be many years away.

just aren't that many cars here in country yet. I love mine, but I wince at the idea of stripping a brand new car and throwing a cage in it and risking going door to door with Burgoon...

I feared going cart to cart with Burgoon while grocery shopping. That's why I moved to the east coast.

I think we'll see a few in Showroom Stock, but production and sales will have to rise far above Subaru's self-imposed limit of 6,000 per year in the United States before it would even make sense to create a spec class for the car. Has Scion released figures on how many it is bringing to the U.S.?

It also seems to me that the used market has to grow to a point where it's affordable to gut a road car for racing. If it doesn't get to that point, why wouldn't you just build a Spec Miata?

Showroom stock? The class that won't exist in 2013?

Spec S2000 makes more sense if you're talking about a spec series that's significantly faster than SM. A spec S2k would be faster than a FRS/BRZ and and 35-60% the cost to build. Far more donors. F22's still available from Honda for about $5k. That's a cheap race engine in my book.

Aside from their cost I never understood why people race them.

Which engine and chassis do you make the spec?

In spec Vette AKA SCCA T1, we used to get LS6 crate motors for under $5k. Ahhh...the good old days...

Oh neither. Merely making a point hypothetically. I'm still working on Spec SuperMiata. That car is about done and should debut at Speed Ventures Buttonwillow in two weeks. 2:01's for about $15K
