That car looks really cool. The interior is so stark and modern.

    surprise, I didn't order.

    1. knowing Tesla (Tesla X was revealed in 2013, and they just started delivering top of the line Launch Edition X now), this is gonna be 2-3 years out for sub $50k models.

    2. They haven't announced the details yet (or I haven't seen it yet), like warranty ? is it double wishbone like Model S ? does it have autopilot in base model (it isn't clear, they just said hardware will be there) ? what's the range on upgraded model (base is 215 miles, but my S is rated 255 miles, with me driving, I can only get 180 miles)?

    3. I can't possibly order one without seeing it (getting in the long line without seeing it till last night). so yes, I am considering it, might put a refundable deposit on it. nothing to lose.

btw, this will make a great Uber car !!! free energy from Supercharger !!

that's actually one of biggest gripe I have about Tesla. you can not do 1 lap of any track (ok, may be Adams) without going to low power mode (1/2 power).

Do you guys think that the model 3 will seriously cannibalize the model S?

Is there a good reason to buy a model S when there's a car that costs half as much and still has the range, supercharge, and a similar autopilot?

The model S isn't exactly amazing inside.

I doubt it . The S is expensive, luxurious and has some status. The 3 looks less spacious, appears to have smaller dimensions, and will probably come with cloth seats (or pleather) @ $35,000. It won't have nearly the same status as the S. I think the 3 is brilliant, it will get consumers that can't afford the S but want a Tesla, and I suspect there are quite a few of those consumers out there.

I just discovered the X, which is old news. I'm impressed. That is an amazing vehicle.

The other rub is that by the time the 3 comes out, Chevrolet will have the new Bolt, which is set to ring in at about the same price. Do you think the Tesla has a bit of caché over and above a Chevrolet? Or does Chevrolet's 100 year head start give it an advantage over Tesla?

also, by the time 3 comes out. Chevy would be on Bolt version 1.5 (usually 2 years after launch)

Hey, guy with the GM Visa card, I was trying to figure out if if was just me who thought a like-priced Tesla had more cache. It sure seems like others feel the same way. I'll ask my wife, too.

I'm thinking I'd rather have a Bolt. More practical and will likely be here before 2020 (we're talking the data, not the wine, which is always around)

My point exactly. So aside from the shining virtue of being expensive, is it that much better than a 3?

Aren't there lots of mid range cars with leather? Is leather and size worth 35k?

Not me. Give me Gas, alcohol, or my favorite DIESEL! Thanks to all that are going electric so I have more fuel to burn.

quoting myself, what did your wife say ?

btw, I couldn't help it. put down a deposit. I am roughly at 200,000 mark. but being a current S owner, I get priority.

many of you are missing the point of owning a Tesla: it drives around any other sports sedans in the world.

    1. it has a much lower CG because of battery underneath your feet. Tesla S has lower CG than a 911.

    2. lower polar inertia. This is a true mid engine (in spirit, as heaviest part is battery, not motor - which is also in between axle). even a 458 has heavy radiator front of axle, exhaust aft axle. so a Tesla is a truer mid engine than all supercars.

    3. torque - your diesel truck has NOTHING on an EV. not even close

    4. throttle response - even your normally aspirated LS engine has NOTHING on an EV. not even close

    5. Tesla S have unequal control A-Arm (not sure if 3 will), not your typical POS BMW, Mercedes sedans.
