Default Skip Barber MX5 Challenge Mar 27/28, 2009 (Finale)

Skip Barber MX5 Challenge Mar 27/28, 2009 (Finale) at Laguna Seca

First of all, I am lucky and glad that Skip Barber changed the finale dates to Friday and Saturday to accomodate the award banquet on Saturday night, that way I can also attend Redline Time Attack on Sunday, busy race weekend but will definitely be worth it

The MX-5s have installed new 6-speed gearbox in replacement of the old 5-speed, a couple of small adjustment to make as far as driving is concerned, other than that, the 6-speed feels good and shifts more solid than the old ones, it also helps to carry more momentum into some turns and to fix the ambiguous gear selection it used to have in some corners.

    Qualifying today: Pole position
Weather: warm, consistently doing mid to high 1:49s, not possible to match my previous track record (1:48.4)
Championship Points Standing: leading by 28 points
Goal: finish on podium, no crashing, 09 mazdaspeed west champion

Looking forward to two great races tomorrow, stay tuned!

Great finale weekend for me: 2 poles, 1st and 3rd finishes.

I went absolutely flat out leading from start to finish in my first race, also set the fastest time of the weekend. In my second race, I had to admit the tires were extremely greasy under the warm weather and I was still pushing it 10/10, causing a huge oversteer(its huge!) at Turn 6 and I went 3 offs.... after a several cars passed me, I kinda took it easy and waited for the moment to pass P3, then he spun right in front of me at turn 5, after I moved up to P3, I drove consistently but not too agressively till the finish line, no harm no foul, I have achieved my goal I also did a "victory burn out" exiting the pit in the championship victory lap, which was the moment i have been dreaming about for a long long time, LOL

2009 Skip Barber Mazdaspeed West Champion!

OK, now I am going to attend the award banquet, will do the report later.

    CONGRATULATIONS CHARLES!
    You've achieved your first goal!
    Bright future awaits you!

Just don't get too much at the banquet so you can grab a couple wins from the RTA! Haha!

    Good work Charles.

BTW, I saw some lap times today in your name and they were good at Buttonwillow. Apparently the Corvette is set up and ready for your to attack the red line boys.

Wow, what a difference it will be, a Miata one day and a T1 Corvette all set up the next.

I predicit you will be a little charged up.

That would have been Ed Lee's S2000 in street class that Charles will also be driving Sunday. The Z06 spent today in the trailer.

The award banquet went very well, I took pictures with mechanics and staff who have helped me throughout the year. It's a mix feeling that I have won the Skippy series knowing that I won't be back in the western series anytime in the near future, we have been such a great family and so helpful to each other, we also have grown together.

As a bonus, I also got the Rookie of the Year. More pictures will be uploaded soon, need to get rest for RTA tomorrow, I am ready.

Congrats, Charles, although I don't think any of us are surprised!
