Aside from their cost I never understood why people race them.
But obviously I just dont get it. -fatbillybob

I have to say that it's not like I'm a follower of Senna or F1, but this film definitely is inspiring me to start W2W racing this year (I already decided earlier this month, but this reinforces the idea more now).
Driving to the limit is my goal.
Winning with Team 949 Racing is merely the result.

Thats pretty cool to be inspired like that. You know, i dont follow F1 or Senna either. In fact, dare i say, the first time i heard about Senna was about a year ago. 1sm118chair.gif So what class are you planning on racing in?

I don't even have a car yet, unfortunately. That's step one.

Anything related to Miatas would be nice. Endurance is also something I've always wanted to do.

Spec Miatas are probably the cheapest and easiest to find if you're going to buy a built car. Of course I vote that you go NASA PTE which also fits into the same Endurance class as William's car.

conspiracy or truth? I remember watching this on TV a long time ago. At the time , i believed Natgeo. But I think the guy that posted the videos is right. The accident was caused by steering shaft failure. That was so phony when the williams mechanic said the steering shaft was supposed to move like that to compensate for the gforce.

Thanks for posting Manly. I agree. I don't buy that "moveable steering wheel" rubbish.

Yep, drivers can make mistakes, but Senna probably knew what he was doing and how to deal with bottoming out. The moving wheel and the crude column extension seem more suspicious than anything else.

You caught that too. Same deal with Earnhardt in NASCAR. Nobody bats an eye until the sport's major moneymaker dies.

Then, OMG, we need safety! That guy who died the day before in the same corner? He sucked anyway, don't worry about him.

Does this mean we should mandate rollbars, harness, and HANS for s2k challenge?

The car modification points that subsidize safety gear are already a great idea that encourages it and leaves some freedoms.

However, when the class gets so big that it can't be stopped, it might be worth doing mandatory safety gear then. When people want in so badly that they will pay for the gear, that's when you can get away with a rule that might hurt your turnout.

The cold hearted tradeoff is personal freedom and turnout vs. some yahoo getting hurt and killing off your sport.

Peer pressure is fairly effective too. Don't want your friends getting hurt? Let them know.
