Default SCCA T1 about to die?

    From Mr Cashin's Facebook post:

"The target performance level of the new Touring 1 will be between that of the current T1 and T2 classes. Current cars that are restricted in T2 will move to the new Touring 1 class, removing restrictions with potential additional allowances, while the current T1 cars will receive restrictions to remain, or have the opportunity to move to the more permissive Super Touring® Over (STO) class."

ST2 will welcome you with open arms.

SCCA is out of control, trying to combine classes. They want to combine FM and FE next year. FE cars are newer and faster and it just doesn't make sense. About 99.9% of member feedback is negative about this, but I think they're going to do it anyway.

    Richard,

They left FM and FE alone. Only effing with the Touring Classes. Makes no sense.

Actually, what Ryan posted might be true and might not be true. The 2013 rules are not out yet. In SoPac we got a nice field of 10 T1 cars mostly C5 vettes. The SCCA CRB has proposed some changes and inviting member feedback to help formulate 2013 rules. While it is nice to run around with the C5 mafia and be the fastest guys in our group it is more fun with more crowds in your class on track. Slowing down or speeding up is fine with me if there are more cars. It just makes it more fun. None of our petty biotching and moning is really significant when we all have important jobs to go to on monday. You can always win if you throw enough money at your class. Our flamboyant indian payday loan guy has proved that. There are always a minority of people who complain the loudest but they don't represent the majority. I'm sure NASA is great. I was at a NASA race picking up tires and asked about running NASA events with my SCCA Nat License. They were so nice eager to sign me up right on the spot. I'll race NASA one day too. Our local SoPac SCCA are similarly awesome voluteers who do anything to make sure you have a fun weekend or solve your problems. At our last BFG Supertour they even "wined and dined" us all you could eat and drink. How can you beat that?

    SCCA doesn't seem to have a class for a 240hp 2700lb e36. There's ITE, but that seems to be a last-resort catchall.

It's odd - there are a lot of cars like that around - NASA and BMWCCA and various partly-converted DE cars.

Not banging on the touring classes, but outside of SoCal T1 is a pretty small class -- as in single or no entries many times. Also, I think the hope is to eliminiate the 'car of the day' which has made the C5's for example, fun, but not actually competitive in T1 against people buying shinier new toys.

Wouldn't you be in ITS or ITR?

This may not be the end of t1, just t1 as we know it. Could be fine with weight plate and smaller tire, could be much worse.

Eh, they should have made the T2's catch up to T1. Putting 200 lbs on a pig with crappy brakes, aweful tire wear, and then making them remove their $2000 exhaust system we just had to buy is what's grinding my gears.

If SCCA actually combined FM with FE I was going to vote with my wallet, and race elsewhere. You should do the same thing. Where does your T1 Corvette slot with NASA? Is it competitive in that class?

    (finds the rules)

(decides he has too few years left in which to read them)

From mylaps it seems that there are zero ITR cars in Norcal. There are 3-4 ITS cars but they're 10+ seconds slower than the GTS3/IP e36.

They asked for feedback and then ignored it and published intentions early. That is what is really pissing people off.

I purchased a T1 car specifically for rule stability since I deploy a lot and hate chasing rule changes with money. I was rewarded two weeks after my purchase with the announcement of wholesale changes to class structure.

I understand the need to consolidate, but they shouldn't neuter cars they should speed up the slow ones. I see a "you can take my American V8 from my cold dead fingers" letter to the SCCA in my future.

T1 Vettes pretty much fit perfectly into NASA ST2. I believe NASA used the C5 Z06s w/p ratio to create the class.

it actually has me thinking about coming back... if they don't add weight.

lowering the revs? restrictor?.. could save the motors and wear and tear on the drive train.

    next thing is cheaper tires..

+1, might be a good thing. just lowering rev 500rpm will probably double engine life, prolong clutch and transmission. instead of damn wide Hoosier, mandate stock wheel size and stock tire size. that would save a ton including hubs, diff and all..heck, C6 might no longer blow up on ACS T2 any more. probably won't need oil and trans cooler any more.
