Default Saw a LeMons car on the freeway this morning.

I was driving into the hospital this morning on the 15 South in San Diego, time about 8:15 am, when I spotted an older white Peugeot that said "Miami or Bust" on the back. As I got closer, I noticed a roll cage inside the car. Driving by, the car had "Air France" on the side, then I noticed "24 hours of lemons" on the side, also.

Is this anyone here? Anyway, I gave a thumbs up driving by.

I'll be there for the palm beach race. I'll swing by a white pugeot and talk to him about San Diego But I've betrayed the west coast.. I'll be crewing for a local florida team.

    Default LeMons

There was a white Citroen (sp?) with Air Prance on the side that ran in the Buttonwillow race 3 weeks ago. Bet that was the same car. Towing all the way to Florida for a LeMons race takes true dedication

I put together a team with a Datsun 280-Z for that race. Even though we broke 2 hours from the finish, we had a blast and finished mid-pack. We have signed up for the Chump Car race at SOW on April 2-3.

If you haven't run Buttonwillow #15 with 170+ cars at one time, you don't know what you are missing

That very well could have been it. I didn't see the brand of the car as I drove by. It very well could have been a Citroen.

Never heard of LeMons (as opposed to LeMans):
24 Hours of Lemons - Home Page

Endurance racing with $500 cars sounds fun.

Aw crap. Our car was by far the fastest car on the track, while it lasted. Set top time every hour it was there except one. It blew up around hour 10-11, happened right in front of my station while our driver was battling it back and fourth with the 2nd place guy, #69. (who we had just recently passed in terms of # of laps). Z cars really suck for durability. Apparently dry sump wasn't enough..

Whats with people claiming "CHEATING" every time someone goes fast? Just because they can't properly set up a car doesn't mean the faster guy is cheating. How the hell do you even cheat in an open-rules series? I take that as a good sign though. When everyone thinks you are cheating that means you are doing something right. I guess people thought we were cheating because we were running summer tires instead of *specs.

I think it would be really cool if there was another low-cost endurance series with more emphasis on competition and without the stupid humor/judging/culturally ignorant aspect of it. Something more serious. Maybe stricter regulations on meeting cost requirement with fuel tank size limitations..

It isn't $500. Not even close. Cost of cage, race seat, harness, fire system, brakes and tires. It cost 90% of a regular race car.

Last chump car race I went. 1/4 of drivers have no track experience.

Note I said track, not race. Many have NEVER been on a track before.

Yeah, the current lo-cost offerings don't seem to fill the niche I want filled. Not that I can afford to do them yet. When I was reading about Chump car it actually seemed less desirable than Lemons.

The race at Palm Beach was pretty cool in that I didn't see any collisions. I've seen some really stupid pit-outs and some semi-stupid pass defense attempts, but nothing really stood out, even for a 24 hour race. I don't know if everyone had wheel-to-wheel experience or not..

The track did have a lot of "safe" passing zones, which was a saving grace.
Note: I was only there for 11 hours of the race. I'm not sure if someone crashed later or not.

Yes, But pro don't do any better. Look at how many crashes at 2010 T25.
LeMon and Chump are much safer comparatively.
