Would be awesome if they can pull off a 2-door RX7 that has 300hp. 3-rotor Renesis?

I have said that any new RX needs three rotors and obscene power to be relevant.

More likely the 21A [prototype] bigger and slower moving rotors.
If nothing happens and there is no one around why did it not happen?

Sales would be far better if the thing just had a turbo 4 cyl.
Same goes to reliability, torque, emissions, development costs and a number of other parameters..

Isn't that just a turbo miata? Or RWD mazda3?

Sounds boring. Not really a worthy competitor to a potential Supra. I would like to see a limited numbers car that is priced higher and is more aggressive. High volume sports cars seem to be built partially by the accounting department. They tend to be disappointing.

Agreed, a 4-cyl RX7 would never exist and would suck anyway.

Would love to see what a GT-R type RX car that was in the $70k+ range would end up looking like.

I think $70k would be too high. Something starting at $35k and topping out near $50k would be more palatable.

It doesn't need to be palatable and accessible to everyone and their mom, look at the cost right now of the GTR or the upcoming Z06. $70k would still make it the cheapest option.

Yes, but if it could be fast, nimble and affordable, so much the better. $70k is still a hugely expensive two seater car and, well, leaves me waiting to buy one used.

Well that already exists - miata + boost. They need to achieve something largely different if they bring back the RX-7 I think.

You guys are mixing OE and aftermarket.
Turbo only came on the Mazdaspeed Miata which was a ~145-150 RWHP car.
I can't see a $70k rotary Mazda selling, that's Porsche Cayman R or slightly used 911 territory... how many shoppers with $70k to blow on a sports coupe will spend it on the Mazda? Not many I suspect.
But, make it a hot BMW 235i competitor with a more conventional engine pushing 320-350 ponies, sweet design, light weight and a more affordable price tag and you might find yourself a few more buyers.

A RWD Mazda3 sounds boring? I think it would be awesome for those who want a sporty car but have kids to tote around.

I agree that Mazda could use a better halo car than the Miata but I think going too far up market would be a mistake. Remember what happened in the '90s?

I'd love to see a rwd either skyactiv or rotary powered RX car that is a hybrid with electric motors in the front hubs. 150-200whp na with another 100hp and awd (50 at each axle) on demand? Yes Plz!

Remember the Alfa 4C is coming out too, lots of excitment in the light-weight segment with the FR-S and everything. I think the next step will be more power from everyone. Mazda should come in and fill that gap and keep the miata a miata.
