    Default Roll at Streets

Looks like he was going in too fast and turned in early. Ouch.

Anyone know what organizer this was with?

Geeze. He did everything right to handle that: noticed it early, quickly made the correct decision, opened it out, drove it straight off nicely under control towards empty flat ground. Then the car went and disappeared into the Grand Canyon.

Why the heck don't they get a grader out there to fix that crap up?

According to WSIR's calendar, it was Speed Ventures.

I've never seen anyone go off there. Kinda looks like a newbie to the track pushing it too hard on a cold (high of 54) day. Multiple mistakes led to that off.

+1 the flip could have been avoided.

And the driver definitely looks like a newb. Just watching how he was handling the steering wheel from the start of the video was scary already.

Glad to see he was OK, especially since he had no cage.

That is some of the worst steering/hand positioning and control I've seen. The inset video looks slightly out of sync with the main video, but he seems to be lowrider-style half the time, letting go of the wheel frequently, has one hand on the wheel for a good amount of the time, and shuffling the wheel more than a soccer mom in a minivan.

Sucks that he crashed, and that off road surface there looks pretty horrific.

EDIT: also do not think it is smart at all to be using a fixed back seat and harness without some kind of roll protection. Glad to see he got out of that ok.

    +1

As he was entering the skid pad, his left hand was on top of the wheel. I've never seen that in any in-car video from a driver on a track.

It looks like the data doesnt even sync with the main video. You clearly hear the wot then a lift and brake, but then it shows braking while he was still WOT. Basically if you ignore the data, he lifted after going wot into the turn, which definitely made the car get out of shape in the first place. And obviously he was going way too fast into that turn and turning in real early like 30ft+ too early didnt help his cause either. Anyways shouldn't even roll regardless, but due to the horrible terrain with ditches and hills, it was a disaster waiting to happen.

+1 on the bucket seat, but no rollover protection is dumb idea. Pretty much guarantee your head will smash the roof if it collapses in rollover. So he went head over tail in the rollover. Didnt look like a barrel roll or maybe it did kinda towards the end of the roll.

Exactly why I'm running stock three-points with my Pro2000.

S-chassis pancake when they land on their roof without protection. Not the safest thing to endo in.

Also, many S-chassis guys let go of the steering wheel often. I still regress to drifter-style sometimes, but curse myself when I do. The car's just so damn progressive when it goes...

The letting go of the wheel is probably the least-bad thing he does with his hands. I've honestly never seen anyone driving (or attempting to drive) that fast be that clueless with their hands on a racetrack. I am fairly confident the crash could have been avoided with better wheel control alone.

Something is off with the video and data. The tires seem to be locked up and squealing after he's in the dirt. Weird.

data and vid sync is off and the driver camera is a little behind the forward facing camera....basically its all out of sync. but ya that was some interesting hand positioning and I've also never seen anyone hit the dirt there.

That's actually the most dangerous corner CCW, I am surprised there weren't more issue there. I've went off on the same corner on the inside once. my Miata ended up in a small ditch, with butt sticking out 45 degree. I was lucky that I went in head first instead of in an angle.

that corner has a ton of speed to be gained if you go in hot. I have gone in a few times with steering wheels sideway

corner worker location: it used to be at lower location. few of us brought that up with Aaron, and had the corner worker moved up to higher ground.

it looks like driver did the right thing by straightening the wheel and gone off road, he just didn't know that there is a ditch. He probably would of gotten away during summer months.

Watching the vid the whole time it looked to me that he was new.....maybe even his first lap on SOW...then I noticed the map outline.....

Sucks and glad he is OK.

I caught this earlier today too. I'd be scared for my life if I was riding with this guy and saw his leisurely hand position. At least he got out with his neck in one piece.

    From corvette forum.

I can't help but feel sorry for anyone that happens to. Rolling a car must be a horrible experience.
