Default Racing at Thunderhill for Charity

    TrackHQers,

As you know, the 25 Hours of Thunderhill presented by the U.S. Air Force is coming up. I discovered through Facebook that Geri Amani, a Miata driver from Northern California has teamed up with the Taylor Lynn Foundation, an organization that raises money and dispenses it in the form of micro grants to give children the opportunity to participate in an activity or function that they would not be able to otherwise.

Some examples of qualifying micro grants, include:

    Paying for sporting enrollment fees
    Paying for camp
Paying for a dress for the prom
Paying for new clothes for school
Paying for a music / arts program or lessons

I thought it was a neat idea, so TrackHQ.com donated to the cause, and the Miata she is racing will display some TrackHQ.com decals. It's also important to note that Shawn Sampson of Sampson Racing Communications is one of the team's drivers.

When a child applies for the microGRANT, he or she is required to have a "sponsor" sign for them, as well as describe a plan to "pay" back the loan. The foundation doesn't actually want the money back. Rather, we want the child to make an effort to "Take a moment to give back," offering the child a unique opportunity to extend the goodwill to others, under the direction of their sponsor.

Ideas for "Taking a moment to give back" to repay the microGRANT include:

Working for a day helping an elderly person do chores
Volunteering at school for a few afternoons
Helping out with another child at school
Doing a few extra chores around the home
Helping with a club or sporting team
    Working at a local farm
Learning new skills while helping at a local business

Bump for further consideration. Come on, guys. This is someone doing some good, all in the name of racing. A donation will make you feel better as a human being. If that's not enough, it's tax deductible.
