Ah, the sport of putting a wagon where it belongs. Love it.

There's good reason why these cars push so badly from the factory.

Throttle input should be proportional to the amount of driver panic. It's usually trouble when it's the inverse.

When in doubt, power out? Works for me, but I've never had more than 180 horsepower to do it with.

I feel that was easily avoidable by taking a very late turn-in after braking hard. I'm assuming a Forester has the cornering capability of a greased walrus.

I still drive hard in the mountains/canyons, but I have two rules: never cross the double-yellow (forward or backward!) and never drive any road, even one I know like the back of my hand, without a recce run first. Bicyclists, sand in lanes, blinding sun, etc. are all easily avoidable by simply not pushing when you don't know what's around the bend, or in his case, after the tunnel. If I can't see through the corner, it's a very late apex with no bike lane incursion allowed either.

Why post a video of yourself being stupid?

I hope he gets a bill for being stupid, from the Forest Rangers, for having to pull a Forester from the National Forest.

    Pretty stout rig!

    And a remarkably dim posting.

I read the description...sounds like he just wanted to hear a nice loud boxer rumble through the tunnel, and unfortunately wasn't very highly functioning after the tunnel. I had an n/a version of that forester at one point. It's an impreza chassis, and can actually be made to handle very well. I miss mine. The forester xt motors were basically a slightly watered down STi motor.

Seeing that video has been up for less than a day, and video description says this:
For licensing / permission to use: Contact - licensing(at)jukinmediadotcom
...I'd figure he's trying to make a quick buck off Youtube ad revenue. Accident happened exactly a year ago (Jan 4 2015), insurance already paid for the totaled car and owner is driving another brand new Forester.

I love watching these video's and then reading the driver description of what happened all the while thinking NOPE.

Regarding this video.... If you spin both feet in. If you're over your head in the canyons you take your front 1/4 damage like a man instead of trying to be a super hero and go over the side. Also, blasting into a sun washed tunnel exit not knowing what was on the other side? Ahhh to be young again and incapable of weighing risk/reward.

From what I saw on FB, this kid bought the car already built by another guy - which I think this car is pretty cool for a street car. Maybe the build made the car less forgiving making it extra easy for this kid to screw up big.

I've done too many dumb things in my life to judge this kid, I'm happy he didn't end up dead. BTW, the car looks like it held up pretty well, maybe we should start a spec Forrester class. Lots of room for a cage in there too.

Maybe. It reminded me a little of that s2000 that seemed to spin for no reason.

I know those tunnels well. Easy to get caught out there. It is difficult to come through the tunnels and pick up the line through the corner due to the change in lighting when coming out of the tunnels and into the sun light. The length of the two tunnels coupled with the great sound effects make it a tempting place to put the hammer down. There is a large open area off to the right for parking so not much in the way of reference points either. A popular place for the motorcycle crowd to crash.

Youthful indiscretion and the advent of privacy-piercing social media will be the doom of this generation. In 20 years we will be finding out about how our presidential candidates found various ways to describe how they f*cked your mother while playing Call of Duty when they were 12..
