    Arrow Praga R1 track toy

What does track HQ think? looks pretty sweet to me.

Fitted with a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter Renaultsport-sourced engine, the power unit produces 210 hp (157 kW) at 7,500 rpm. It might not sound impressive but with a curb weight of only 590 kg (1,300 lbs); the vehicle has a power to weight ratio of 356 hp / ton. Power is sent to rear wheels via a 6-speed Hewland JFR sequential gearbox with pneumatic control and a self-locking differential.
The car is 4170mm long, 1800mm wide and only 995mm tall. It has a carbon fiber monocoque with built-in crumple zones and comes with race-specific safety equipment like a safety fuel tank, fire extinguishing system and 6-point seatbelts. Other components include Koni dampers, AP Racing clutch and Motec electronic engine management.
All units will be manually built in Czech Republic and will carry a starting price of 98,000 EUR.

Sexy. Not nearly enough power though. It needs to go like it looks.

That thing looks awesome! But add more powwahhh! The Czech are really good at building aircraft and high performance aero stuff like gliders, so it's nice to see them get into racing too.

If the STIG and Adrian Newey's Gran Turismo X-1 Prototype mated and had a kid, it would look like this

Aside from their cost I never understood why people race them.

looks like it would have more down force ... but i wonder how it would stack up to like a lotus super 7 kit car or the Aeril Atom

Folks get caught up in HP numbers and ignore the fact that it weighs just a bit more than a Big Mac.
That it appears to have some significant downforce inducing aero tells me its in another league from aero disasters like the various Lotus 7 kits or an Atom.

That's the coolest looking car to come out of the track toy craze.

I'm with Emilio. That thing will be lightning fast up to 100. I just wonder if all the aero and the low power will cause it to fall on its face once you get into tripple digit speeds.

In car video during one of it's shake downs. Weirdly, the engine isn't much of a screamer, sounds rather lazy. But, at the same time, i can't tell if he's just short shifting the whole time. Definitely faster than the GT3 Cup car.

Yeah, but peanuts are nuts*. I have to go with Emilio's take. It should scream like an unpaid hooker.

    I disagree with you guys.

Sure, 210 hp will get the car around the track with haste... but this thing has radical written all over it, not ho-hum. A 7 lb per hp ratio (when you add driver weight) sounds great to those of us who track miatas, but in the big picture, that's not that crazy. The new Z06 is 6.something. Power to weight ratio for my 1000RR is 3.5 lbs / 1 wheel hp, rider weight included. Yes, that's Veyron territory (better, actually). The Praga needs 400 whp. Liter bike acceleration down low without the aero drag of a motorcycle up top. Yes please.

Small displacement high-revving aluminum V8 with a sequential box is exactly what this car needs.

I got to drive one some weeks ago.

Hard to describe the sensations. Just by looking at it, you know this is going to be something else. Once you enter the car and sit inside, it´s very cramped, seat is tilted some 30° backwards, the field of view is narrow, and you´re surrounded by bare CF all around, with a Cosworth steering wheel full of buttons on your hands... totally different to anything I´ve been in before. Reminded me of Le Mans prototypes, and yes, it´s basically inspired in them

It was not intimidating to drive though. The power band is pretty ample, the sequential gearbox with paddle shifters works flawlessly, and you get used to the commands quite fast. Acceleration is very good but not stupid (the one I drove was remaped for 350hp), traction was never a problem, and obviously the most impressive stuff comes in the corners: once the tires are up to temp, it just has endless grip, and the difference with road cars is even more insane in fast corners when aero is working.

Just to have a reference for the ridiculous speed of this car, some lap times in the same track:
    - Stock Lotus Exige S: 2.08 (me, risking my life)
    - Argentinian SuperTC2000 (430hp V8 touring car, driven by pro diver): 1.49. This is suposed to be the fastest Touring car category in the world.
    - Praga R1: 1.41 (me, driven with fear of crashing a 200.000 euro car)

I just saw around 10 of them at the FARA race at Homestead today. Pretty neat cars.

    Pretty enticing:

Seems like they are actually a long time manufacturer (including go karts and trucks) who have partnered with Alfa and now have a dedicated endurance cup series, and a 30K (euro) discount.

    Czech it out:

    Praga Global – 89.900 EUR
