    Default Pontiac G8 GT/GXP

Anyone here have any experience with the above car?

I need to have a decent 4-door sedan for work, but my Passat TDI is slowly putting me to sleep. Was looking at used M5's, but am fearful that the maintenance costs will eat up my racing budget.

LS2 in the G8 should be pretty bullet proof, and get reasonable MPG.

    I don't fit in CTS-V's, headroom wise.

Not that keen on the styling of the G8, but it's no worse than the "people's car" that I have now.

Yeah, SS's are moving so slowly you can get a heck of a deal on one... a great car though.

    This. ^^^

I wouldn't expect this car to continue past 2016 and in typical GM fashion they kill a car the year they get it right, so

Chevrolet SS Could Get 1LE Handling Package For No One To Buy

It can now be had with 3 pedals and the 1LE handling package so it has to be on the chopping block.

Here's a review of the SS we did in Speed News. They are outstanding sedans and as bulletproof as you believe them to be.

craZee: if you (or any of Trackhq regular) are buying a new GM in the next 7 days. I can get you ~$1,500 of free GM money, no catch.

    Thanks bellwilliam,

I am going to try and test drive one today. There are only 2 in all of San Diego on the Chevy lots.

Leaning towards just going with a G8 GT as they are under $20k. The SS I built on line was $55K

I don't get the media begging for a manual SS. I find it hard to imagine the guy that can afford a new one choosing a stick over the very good auto it already has. Its not as if its an HPDE car like the Camaro, or street hoon-mobile Hellcat. Its a car you drive to the office every day, take clients out to lunch with and generally use for work. Personally, I hope there are still a few around in a year or two so I can snap one up for 25k or so. Used they are down to mid 30's already.

The only thing that would make the SS more desirable to me would be if it were a wagon.

Aside from their cost I never understood why people race them.

I'd like a stick if the shifter was Miata good.

Corvette transmissions are much less fun to shift.

Drove an SS today at the dealer. Picked the youngest salesman on the lot so he would not be telling me what I could and couldn't do during the test drive. lol

It was parked next to an Impala and the 2 cars were very difficult to tell apart. If this black model drove past me on the street, I would never even notice it. Nothing to catch your attention.

Test drive impression was car felt super heavy, exhaust noise too quiet, Brembo brakes felt great and I made the young guy grab the dashboard.

At over $50K, I don't see good value in the car.

An SS with, 40k miles from Carmax with their kick ass add-on warranty for say, $28K and I'm in. G8 seems like steal if you can get past its looks. Not that the SS is pretty, more like an Accord that fades in to the background with Inoffensive™ Honda styling
