    Default new Z car project

Picked up another "stalled" Z car project on Christmas Eve. No work done since 2007 on this one. The PO had fixed all the body rust and was stitch welding the body and reinforcing the frame to run an RB motor in it. Not being a "turbo guy" I will probably put an LS engine in it. Tried to get him to include the pink bikes, but he drove a hard bargain LOL

Looks like a fun project but I would have walked away if he wouldn’t include the pink bike.

Very cool project. If you do go with LS power, what happens to the rest of the driveline? Obviously, the transmission is from GM, but are there beefier options for the differential and half shafts?

I am running an LS1 with a T-56 in another Z car with excellent dependability. Nissan put an R200 diff in the 300 ZX that people pump 500 hp to all the time. There are aftermarket CV style half shafts available to replace the stock u-joint ones. On mine I am still using the stock Nissan output flange on the diff so each of the 4- 12mm drive shaftbolts has to hold about 100 hp LOL

That must be a rocket with an LS engine in it! What is the total weight with the LS in it? And roughly what is the weight distribution?

Weight is about 2,600 lbs with 51/49 F/R. LS engine is lighter and shorter than cast iron Nissan inline 6. Tranny adds extra weight, but it is midship and down low.

I am only running 300-325 hp or so and it is quite tame. 450-500 hp would be a beast :-)

That sounds like a fun machine! About 500 hp sounds about right
