Also, apps like Racehero are not scoring software (although maybe things have changed in the past few years). They are simply presenting data sent to them by the tracks' timing loop and software. The data is the same for everyone. How you present it is the art. For results software, no one has perfected that yet. Least of all Mylaps.

Edit: did someone from alibaba write the product description for the mylaps x2? Holy s*** that's awful.

Got this email today from MyLaps. Looks like they want to catch a few people who don't understand the new subscription plan.
I will be keeping my old transponder along with my 2011 Verizon unlimited data plan thank you very much.

At one point the old ones may stop working after AMB "updates" the system. Hopefully not.

Sure. We will retrieve if bad stuff happens at the track.

If they plan the obsolescence of the old transponders, I will lose my ****.

Just don't buy the X2 problem solved. Let them go out of business. Since they lost the old data the website never worked well for me so I don;t even bother using it. SCCA posts the times so what the heck....

Better believe it. Once they get enough of the new ones in place, they will knock the old ones out.

Yes but if SCCA has taught you anything those old codgers running nearly antique racecars aren't going to new amb's without kicking and screaming. We all need to stand tough and not get suckered in their game.

what organizations use the mylaps website? I only have experience with SV and NASA but I think they both use standalone software to process the transponder signals.

It seems like the transponder signal from old one will always be picked up by the loop installed in the track and maybe just not processed and posted on the website. The new one might stop transmitting when the membership expires in the unit.

I haven't used MyLaps since it fritzed out a few years ago. It was barely usable before that. Just trying to do a search for an event was an exercise in blind luck. When the news broke on the subscription model, I bought a hardwired AMB transponder from Pegasus just in case my old one broke (or I got another racecar ).

On this issue, I'll gladly play the role of a Luddite. In this case, change is not progress. This "change" is a cash grab. **** 'em.

It would be a good time for someone to come out with a new transponder!

Did a litle research. The yellow TranX 160 Kart transponder is limited to 100mph and must be mounted within 12" of the ground. So, no go for car use.

Aside from their cost I never understood why people race them.

And I am sure this is made by purpose so car racers cannot use it.

They are doing the same subscription upgrade with the yellow kart transponders too.

I'm scooping up any used or NOS 260's I can find on ebay's around the world. Some are below the old retail price. Used TranX 160 Kart transponders are cheap so I investigated to see if they were compatible with car usage and of course, they aren't.
I've sold transponders with cars and bought AMB's direct in bulk for resale. Sorry I didn't hang onto a bunch when I had the chance but who knew they would pull the rug out? I don't ever want to buy a subscription AMB, ever. I'd rather pay the $485 retail for a NOS TranX 260 than a free subscription based unit.
