Loan rich u mean? Lol! I only pay off my car in 2yrs so that means I get to drive loan free for only the remaining 3yrs. cars only last ten years here. I try my best to manage my finances, not really keen to blast tens more thousands on the car. Gonna do street tyre class time trial events but nothing else too serious. Just focusing on driver improvement. I can't afford much else, especially with shocking pre-school costs looming large on the horizon -_-"

Hello,
Have purused around this forum for a while now soaking up information where I can. Usually keep in my group at the tracks but would love to meet more people and share the racing bug.

Most feared turn: WSIR Turn 8/9 complex. Lots of speed, lots of terror.
Picks of the car in various states. Just getting the motor done now and ready to get back out there, been 6 months.

^^ Cool valve cover.
Welcome! Most feared turn: WSIR Turn 8/9 complex. Lots of speed, lots of terror.
Turn 8 is not a turn; it is a curved straightaway. Full throttle and hold the inside line, until the car just naturally tracks out toward Turn 9. It is so incredibly fun. Don't lift. You always know you're are behind a total n00b if you see brake lights at the entrance to Turn 8. I don't care how much hp the car has, Full Throttle through 8.
Turn 9 is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma (apologies to Winston Churchill). I have at least 5,000 laps under my belt at WSIR. I will probably never get Turn 9 exactly right, but it is a challenge that I will never get tired of.
BTW, you have a lot of banking helping you in Turns 8 and 9 that you cannot see from the driver's seat. Go out and walk the track through Turns 9 and 8 (walking CCW) in the early morning before the event, and it will amaze you how much banking there is.

^^ Yup. This photo also shows A) the terror and B) the banking

^^^ That guy didn't take my advice to take the inside line through 8. He got too far out to the left, and suffered the pain of his indiscretion.

The 1 track day I have done at WSIR, I stayed full throttle thru 8 starting at the 2nd session of the day and took the inside line....still scary and car moves around a lot. Loved it.
Welcome Mikhail.
You should re-install the factory belly pan under the engine bay for the sake of improved cooling and reduced aero lift.
See ya @ Buttonwillow!
Moti
Definitely on there at this point, including a ton of other ghetto ducting I have put on since those pictures. All signed up for BW 1CCW with SV in Sept. Going to be my 1st Miata Challenge event I have been able to get to, should be a great time.
New member here. My name is Chris and I live in Edmonton, Canada. Just got pointed to this site by a friend who told me to stop looking for a car to build and just buy an existing track car =)... Ive been looking through the Sale threads and I see lots of awesome cars on here.
Ive been playing with cars for 16 years, on and off track. Still consider myself a novice when it comes to racing. Started off in lightweight rwd cars like 510s and ae86s and last year bought an Evo X to run at the local time attack series. Ended up setting lap record for street tire class. This year Ive gotten rid of all my toy cars and just purchased a low milage 2000 M5 as a DD so the girl will allow me to go buy/build a track car and go racing again.
Still not too sure what I want to start with. Drove a miata today for the first time and it reminded me how much I miss a light car. Hopefully something comes up soon, I know I will be itching for a project to work on the moment the snow flies.
Guess I will keep lurking in the For Sale section till the right car comes up
Regards,
Chris

Welcome to TrackHQ.com, Dave.
Greetings everyone!
I got my first miata and started autocrossing 7 years ago, loved it but always wanted to graduate to the real track. Back then I lived up in Monterey. When I decided to move down to San Diego two and a half years ago, I knew there was no way I could move away from Laguna Seca without racing on it at least once while it was still in my back yard. Attended my first track day there on old Falken Azenis in the rain (yikes), and got hooked right then and there.
The miata's focus has been maximum fun per dollar - never trying to fall into a certain rule set, instead being a canvas to just have fun fabricating parts and tweaking things all for the enjoyment of just going fast. It does however fall nicely into the Super Mod class of Miata Challenge, so long as I keep it on Hankook RS-3s.
A bit about the car:
Stock 1.6L motor, turbo kit, 185whp 7psi (for the track), 210 whp 11psi
2050 lbs wet, no driver
Blackbird Fabworx 12-point 3/4 cage and seat mount
DGR coilovers, sways, poly bushings
DIY aero and carbon fiber hardtop
15x9 wheels with 225/45 RS-3s
One of my first track days, Camping at Buttonwillow
I'll be at Buttonwillow with Speedventures for the Miata Challenge this coming weekend, and the next weekend will be WSIR for the Mazfest event. Excited to explore the " riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma" that is turn 9!!!
Also, I've had another recent project - it's probably two-wheels short of getting much love from the car crowd, but here's my 600RR track bike:
The day I brought it home:
And the finished project:
Hope to see you guys at the track!
