Williams, thank you for the insights. I hope I don't have hub problems. I'm hoping to avoid most problems by simply using crummy street tires and closely monitoring temps. I'm going to show up to Button Willow with concrete-hard Hancook V12s. They are fun, it doesn't take much to make the car rotate. The price is most definitely right for those Federal tires. Thanks for the head's up. I'll get me a set of those after destroying the V12s at BW. With a little luck, they won't be grippy enough to cause issues. Any chance you'll be at Button Willow?

Vette is like a four seater for your size, no?

no, vette seat tub area is actually pretty narrow (because transmission tunnel is huge ? ). In my research, very few seats fit. I believe only 2 models out of ~10 Sparco seats fit.....

if you haven't done this mod, I highly recommend it...

stock seat hugs much better in corners. mod took me 30 minutes for both seats. 1/2 of that time was removing and reinstalling seats (x4 15mm nuts per seat). very easy to do.

    Sweet!

Right now I just pull out the lower lap belt and release it so that it ratchets firm. Then I back the seat up a bit, then bring it back up. This procedure results in a firm lap belt. Does wonders.

Some upper bolstering will work magic too.

I don’t know how different the C6 is from the C5 but I used the wide version of the Cobra Suzuka In my C6 and it fit perfectly....it was tight but it fit. I would recommend calling Joe at Phoenix Racing, he will know what fits.

In anticipation of Buttonwillow on the 28th, I am contemplating what tires to run. The objective is to see how the Corvette does in stock trim @3300 lbs and 350 fwhp. I want to minimize the risk of cracking a rotor or breaking a hub.

My options are to either run the 6 year old Hancook V12 tires that are currently on the car, or to run Federal RS-RR tires, which appear to be about the same as the old, beloved RS-3. The Hancooks didn't have grip when they were new, and right now they are basically made of concrete.

Is the risk of trashing hubs and cracking rotors proportional to the grip of the tires? Or has it been found that it's a risk regardless? Have there been any instances of hubs cracking with entry-level R-compound tires?

I say RS-RR, as they don't handle heat well.... so winter is a great time to run those....

In my experience, you won't be able to keep the rear under you with old street tires. Mine were so bad I nearly looped it on the street a couple times when I bought my used c5z. I'd go with fresher rubber. And the hubs aren't that weak. Unless they are already trashed they should be fine on anything less than R comps for a while.

You risk goes way down and longevity goes way up when not running Hoosier A7s. Even with A7s you will get a number of track days and/or races out of the hubs before they break. I recommend anyone running a Corvette regularly on the track, especially with race rubber, to get the SKF hubs after a few weekends out on track.

Running on crappy tires I did my front hubs after 5 years because the front bolts loosened up (didn't realize that could happen at the time and thought the front hubs were bad).

I had a rear hub go genuinely bad not long after.

595RS-RR it is! I might buy some cheap wheels and run a square 275 setup. I hope the brakes last. Watch out spec vette!

Seems I can't get a set of 595RS-RRs in time for the weekend. I'll be on the cinder blocks. Should be an interesting and fun ordeal where I learn what throttle steering is.
