Default New Chassis Planned for 2016 Camaro

The new (ATS, CTS) Alpha platform should be a nice improvement.

How much lighter? It needs to shed at least 500 lbs. That's never going to happen . . .

If it's in line with the Cadillac ATS, with which it will share a chassis, it could be as much as 800 pounds.

Excuse me: as much as 700 pounds. I'm saying the ATS weighs around 3,300 and change and the current Camaro weighs about 4,000 pounds.

Yep, and it's a welcome one.

I know there is a lot of required safety equipment (airbags, etc.) but I still have a hard time believing some automakers don't do everything possible to make performance cars as light as they can. Better performance and mileage from less power. Duh.
