Default New brakes on the FR-S

    Hi Guys.

The track review isn't done on these yet, which I appreciate most here want to see more than the install and shiney marketing photos. I just put Essex Parts AP Racing front brake kit on my FR-S. Dropped 10lbs of unsprung weight per corner. This fact is why I bought them - not the super braking feel or whatever else I might also be getting from the new system. Its enough you can actually feel it in the steering wheel driving on the street. Here is a photo. The full review is on my blog. Anyone at AAA tomorrow? I'll see you guys there.

I also took the opportunity to plug my new product on the blog entry. I won't plug it here as I'm not a vendor. I'd frankily like to offer the product to a current vendor/sponsor here to fulfill in this market. If there are shops that are interested in carrying it, drop me a note. I've got a wholesale program in place.

Does it change brake bias significantly?

Nice...haven't read your blog in a while, but with minimal modifications the car was already down to 2:03 with emmi driving? So that's like 2:10 for us mere mortals?

With each passing day, I want this car more and more!

^^^ I wouldn't touch it until the BRZ Turbo comes out. Needs 50+ hp from the factory, and factory turbo allows lots of aftermarket tuning.

We need FRS/BRZ to be the new spec miata. I hope these take off.

    Richard-

I guess I haven't followed the gossip closely enough, is there any credible evidence there will be a turbo version? The car would be a ton of fun with 250hp, but the same can be said for the miata - which people have had a blast with NA for ever. I'm not defending it. Just curious where people are getting their information.

As for brake bias, on the street, the change was not noticeable. I'll know more tomorrow...

and I just checked out the "FRS86" meet thing happening at the same time as the speedventures event. Really? Is this what this car is attracting?

Rumors from car magazines. Why would you doubt that?

When I get an FR-S, I am installing those brakes even though the car will be a street car.

I'm interested to see what Essex will cook up for a rear brake kit.

I have to admit, I was a bit surprised at the size of the crowd who clearly purchased their car as a lifestyle choice. Maybe one clean, stock-ish looking car with wider wheels, sticky tires and non-ricer coilovers. Yours made two.
I guess that's OK though. Lets face it, all the die hard track and autocross junkies want one because we now know it's the real deal. That the lifestyle crowd also digs the car just means parts will be cheaper, greater selection and easier to get sponsors for racing. Win.

BTW, I got a kick out of your stock engined car being just about as fast as the ill-fated and boosted Crawford mobile. Nice work.

Aside from their cost I never understood why people race them.

Kinda like the miata maybe. Chicks buying what they see as a cute chick car means more donors for us loonies.

Now, Matt, we're going to need you to wreck a ferrari to get that brake kit some press. Make sure he's an asshole. (oh, wait, it's a ferrari owner.... nevermind! )

Turbo version is inevitable, but as long as the car is selling well, I don't think there will be any rush to release it.

Is there anywhere for a turbo to go (from an OEM point of view)? All of the aftermarket kits seem to locate the turbo in compromising or far-less-than-ideal locations.

pucsicsal - The fastest unit of speed measurement is not the speed of light, it is the speed of flatout. Hence the BRZs limit.
